Justified or Deadwood??

Im looking for a new series to watch so it all came down the the 2 series, and since i really dont know for wich to decide too i came here to ask for your opinion

I started Deadwood a couple weeks ago and watched a few episodes, it was good but I just wasn't that excited to see what happens next. So I gave Justified a go and I was hooked!! I've been binge watching it for a little over a week, almost finished. They both have some similarities, hillbillies, gun fights, marshals, bad guys/girls, and Timothy Olyphant.

Justified, hands down. The storyline between Raylan and Boyd is really the glue that holds it together. I always found Deadwood to be overrated. And at times, I can curse like a sailor with the best of them, but I found Deadwood's use of profanity to really just be distracting. I can't remember which episode it was, but there was one that if I had a dollar for every time they used the F or C words I could change my last name to Trump. I realize it's HBO, but no limits doesn't always mean they need to push so far.

While Deadwood is undeniably great I say go with Justified. So much more well rounded viewing experience.
Keep in mind if you haven't read any reviews alluding to this, the first season has more self contained storys in episodes. Towards the end of season 1 it starts to build to the excellent season finale "Bulletville"
Once you get to season 2 with the Bennett clan and the beginning of the true Raylan vs. Boyd story-line you will be hooked.

I loved the pilot but then became afraid that they were going to go the 'fugitive of the week' route. Basically, 'The Fall Guy' with better dialogue.

I'm glad I stUck around until they found their way with the season-long arcs.

reply

I guess that we can agree to disagree, but I found the dialogue in The Fall Guy to be cheesy. Justified's dialogue, on the other hand, was witty and sharp. Just what you'd expect from a series based on an Elmore Leonard short story, to begin with, and a novel later on.

Both shows take their time to pick up their pace, I'd say Justified is easier to watch and Deadwood is a little bit smarter, but they're both excellent. Although Justified actually had a real ending.

reply

Deadwood did absolutely nothing for me. I stopped watching about 2 seasons in.

I think your preference will come down to whether or not you like westerns. If you do you may prefer Deadwood set in the 1800s. If not you may prefer Justified set in the modern day.

Deadwood sucks.

reply

Justified.

Now if Deadwood ever gets the chance to complete its story, well...

Wait a minute... who am I here?

reply

I have not yet seen Justified, but look forward to it.
Deadwood does not suck. Fabulously entertaining characters and acting by scores of actors I didn't know well before, but are now favorites. Biggest negative was the lack of a series conclusion. Apparently Justified got that right.

reply

Deadwood is by far the superior show less using the same actor for two roles and its early demise. Justified is slightly above good. Just your made for TV good cop bad cop with a Western outlaw spin.

Update. Well, I have to admit it does get better with each season. Kind of ages like a fine wine.

reply

Justified and its not even close for me. Justified has so many interesting characters and stories, it has fun and action in it too.

I got through Deadwood but I was bored all the way through hoping it would get better. I can't remember much about it either.
