Red Dead Film: Your ideal Marston?

Who is your ideal choice for Martson if a film version was made?

Here are mine (not in any order):

Brad Pitt
Jim Caviezel
Hugh Jackman

the prettiest faces in hollywood? you got your head up your ass.

Johnny Messner
Nick Chinlund
Eric Bana
Josh Brolin
and you cant go wrong with DDL

reply

If Josh Brolin is one of those in true grit then I do like the idea but imagine Marston being older, and a bit more grizzled.

If Jack Nicholson could put on a different accent he could be Nigel West Dickens.

reply

marston was 38/39 at the time of his death. the more i think about it the more Brolin seems perfect for the part, he has the same build, and about the same gravely voice.

shame about him doing that crap 'jonah hex' movie, i doubt he'll do another comic book/video game western.

Josh Brolin for sure, first actor to pop in my head.

"I’m an early bird and a night owl. So I’m wise and I have worms." - Michael Scott

reply

josh brolin is the quintisential cowboy, IMHO atleast.

another guy is ofcourse Kurt Russell. i cant really put one infront of the other, they both seems pretty perfect for the part. only thing is that brolin is age-perfect, but Russell has aged pretty well.

reply

josh brolin would actually be a pretty good choice, since they have kind of the same look and macho voice

reply

Russell Crowe. Brad Pitt's too pretty, Jim Caviezel doesn't fit, and although Hugh Jackman might work, he's already done this kind of role so many times.

Although Crowe did 3:10 To Yuma, I still think he'd kick serious ass as Marston.

Don't try to cash in love, that check will always bounce.

reply

Mike Madsen would be good, although I think he may be in his late 40s/early 50s now. His voice sounds like Marston's anyway. Josh Brolin would be better as Jack Marston IMO.

reply

Russel Crowe would would be cool but Hugh Jackman would actualy be kinda good he kinda has a scruffy look like John Marston or Josh Brolin. Oh and I know this thread is mainly for John but for Nigel West Dickens I kinda see the guy who voiced him being able to do it ok he of course has the same voice but he kinda looks like him

reply

what do u all think about Viggo Mortensen

reply

i think hes too skinny. he got a good beard-face though, but i saw him in appaloosa(sp?) and i didnt buy him as a cowboy.
so thats a vote of no confidence on my part.

reply

I haven't seen Appaloosa but he was superb in Hidalgo, though.

Karl Urban

For all those who like the idea of Karl Urban as Marston (he was my first choice as well, but I do like the idea of Brolin)

I didn't do this, but it's awesome...

reply

Christian Bale is also another ideal Marston.

reply

id prefer bale as Solid Snake

reply

Good idea.

BTW, I think I heard that the producers were actually considering Brad Pitt for the role of John Marston. Think I heard that on GameSpot.

reply

Brad Pitt as Marston would be pretty awful.

Okay, that's a bit unfair maybe, but when there are other actors so much better suited to the role the idea of Pitt playing Marston just loses all appeal...

Jaoquin Phoenix as Marsden and Daniel Day Lewis as the antagonist. That would be the *beep*

Josh Holloway would fit this role, he looks and sound like John Marston.

Did you see him as the Black Rider?!

I only do it with superheroes.

reply

Absolutely! I came here specifically to suggest him. This one scene is the only proof you need: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F-JHAKTvB1c

Josh Brolin seems more like the overly obvious (and typecasted) choice. And he probably wouldn't want to play another cowboy after Jonah Hex anyway.

reply

Definitely Josh Brolin.
