This movie is so bad... also a question for those that LOVE this movie.

Um.. where to start?
Typical high school, 'Twilight' type of movie (I think the Twilight series is horrible too). It is really predictable and cheesy. A good looking guy (John Smith or Number 4) enters school, gets bullied by the football team, then falls in love with the girl that dated the star/leader of the team. The ex-boyfriend gets jealous and tries to win back the girl. Of course he fails, the new guy and the girl hit it off and have a relationship BUT something happens and can't be together for some reason in the end. Haven't we seen this type of scenario one too many times before?? Yet I guess it still works for all these idiots. Furthermore, the aliens look like a complete joke and the special effects are poor.

One part of the movie was just mind-boggling to me.. when the aliens were drawing near John (while knowing this) and is also being chased by the cops, John and Sarah go off to school to develop pictures!!! WTF, seriously?!? You're running away from these 2 groups and you're going to make a pit stop at school to develop pictures?? Can someone give me an explanation to this?

Overall, terrible movie. I wouldn't even rent this with a free rental coupon.
Rating: 2/10

**Update**
New rating: 1/10
Reason: No one can give me a reasonable explanation to the above question.

There is always alot in this kind of movies that makes no sense.

I always try my best to not think about any inconsistencies. That alone should decide if the movie is good because then all blockbuster movies would have been very bad. If you search for it you can find inconsistencies in most movies.

The comparison with Twilight is not fair.

They are two very different movies.

In my opinion #4 tried to be teen sci-fi and failed to be any good.

The twilight series are bad movies in my opinion but i think they are pretty much as intended (being about romantic love, desire, (blood)lust, marriage, ect.)

I snubbed this when it was being released in theaters for reasons too convoluted to type down here, nevertheless, I've just seen this about a week ago and....

I got over my initial mighty skeptical reaction when I was surprised by the monstrously huge flying hound beasts aiding their alien masters in going after the kids ....

....as for the alien hunters, themselves, what irritated me is there anatomical design, specifically, their leg appendages, the actors look to appear to be wearing very high heeled boots, not imaginative, in addition to this, one, strangely, by the director's decision has them interested in, of all materials, a comic book.

It's a hit and miss situation here, imo.

Interesting ideas here, so, I'm in favor of it.

I don't love this movie and I only like it because Henri dies.

Q1: Haven't we seen this type of scenario one too many times before??
A1: Only idiot can demand every new movie to be original. When we're watching football game it's fun despite it is the same game over and over again. Your life will be easier if you look at the movie the same way.

Q2: You're running away from these 2 groups and you're going to make a pit stop at school to develop pictures??
A2: wasn't he waiting for the Sam to bring him the stone anyway?

Q3:Reason: No one can give me a reasonable explanation to the above question.
A3: Good way to rate the movie. I guess it was 9/10 because it's rainy, 8/10 because it's monday, 7/10 because of <random stuff> ....

Here's a serious answer. At the time John and Sarah go to the school, he is unaware that the Mogs are so close to him. He is saying goodbye to the one true love of his life and takes a few minutes to do so.
They run to the school to lie low from the cops.

It's pretty basic stuff, to be honest. Frankly, if you are going to dismiss a whole film based on the the premise that you can't think of a "reasonable" explanation for certain events, then you are looking at a lifetime of disappointment, young man.

Your high school cynicism and pubescent attitude suggests that you will totally dismiss any explanation, however reasonable, because you are unable to consider the fact that you might actually be in the wrong. One day, you'll grow up.

Okay, you need to calm down a bit. It's a movie, don't get your knickers in a twist over it. Have you even read the book? I doubt it. That's basically all the first book is, John and Sarah's relationship developing over a span of months. It's not full of intense action sequences except for the end at the school battle. If they were to convert Power of Six into a movie, which I surely hope they will, I doubt you would be disappointed because in my opinion it was far superior to the first book.

This movie can be the most cliché ever but the story is the best that i've seen in many movies. Have you read the "The Power Of Six", the next book after "I Am Number Four"? It's a sensational story and the point is: Yes, the movie was not a big thing. But in my point of view, the film is better than the book. And if happens a sequence of course you'll have to swallow everything you said. Because I consider this as one of the best movies ever seen. People say it's cliche but many movies that are considered "good" and win many awards for it, contains a lot of cliché's scenes and no one "sees" this. My rating for this movie is: 8/10.

PS: And this movie has nothing to do with "Twilight." The teen movies are constantly compared with the films of the Twilight Saga and it has to stop. The difference between Twilight and I Am Number Four is that Twilight is bad and the other not.

Movie was pretty cliche, but seriously, 1/10?

What you if you watch a movie worse than this one? Is that a 0/10 then? -1/10? You need to set your standards lower if you think this movie only deserved a 1 out of 10 rating. I'd suggest you go watch some of those direct-to-DVD out there by Uwe Boll.

That should give you some perspective.

this is one of the worst movies i've seen hence the 1/10 rating.

In the book, the final battle took place at school after John realized the Mogs were coming. John went home to find Mark there and then Henri arrives shortly after mad about him getting seen. John quickly went to the school to protect Sarah as she was taking her driver's test that day. I don't know why in the movie they made it about her looking at the camera's film.
