Most overrated sci-fi movie of ALL TIME?

I think so. Not even worth watching a second time.

Maybe. This is one of those movies that was a "theme park" experience. You had to see it in the theater with all the bells and whistles. Which was freaking amazeballs. Watching it at home on dvd, it's pretty boring and worse, dumb.

Another possibly overrated scifi film was The Martian, which I actually hated in the theater. And yet rewatch many times. My problem with that film is the annoying soundtrack is simply too overbearing. But I pair the two films for their realistic approach to space stuff.

reply

Nah, it must be Interstellar.

It's a good popcorn movie. Good pacing and special effects. Far from the most "overrated" scifi movie..

reply

It is VERY boring. Bullock bouncing around in space for two hours.

Only reason it exists is Alfonso Cuarón used it to test a new process for special effects.

reply

It's barely more than a tech demo.
The artistic part of it is quite passive, almost non existent.
Just for simpleminded viewers.

reply

Yeah it’s pretty bad. Director was more interested in the special effects techniques they developed for filming space walks than actually writing a script.

The 3D was outstanding. Ageless wonder Sandra Bullock spent most of the movie floating in a space station in her underwear and the views of space were quite impressive. It was the story of an ordinary person struggling to get back home. This is almost like the Speed movie in outer space.
