Awful movie

Manic overacting (I know he's meant to be crazy, but still), boring hyped-up directing, and a puerile, juvenile script.

I'm Scottish, and would love this to work, but Irvine Welsh is vastly over-rated (in my view), and this movie can't rise above the source material.

Please don't flame me, this is just my personal opinion.

This film is a bumpy ride. If you're easily offended, then this isn't the film for you.

What's there to be offended? This movie and the book it's based on weren't that good (yes, I have read the book).

...Diana? Is that what the character of Mary is called in the book?

Movie was good, everything fit together nicely from actors to character quirks and all that jazz. Decent 7/10 material.

Saying this movie is not your cup of tea? That's just fine.
Saying this movie is trying too hard to be Trainspotting? Both movies were inspired by books from the same author but okay, I guess.
Saying this movie is bad because you don't like the main character? You should never try to be a professional critic.
Saying this movie is edgy? Oh, my child.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion and everything, but it's starting to sound more and more like the perfect defense for when you have no reasonable arguments.

This was just Bar Leutenant (Harvey Keitel) rehashed, badly. McEvoy is talented, but the overacting took away from that. I also think he is hot, but even that wasn’t enough to make me watch this trash to the end. Welsh is overrated, Trainspotting was done well, perhaps that was all down to Boyle’s directing and some choice casting. This was truly awful and I was looking forward to seeing it. I can even appreciate films that are bad if they have redeeming features. All involved in this film should be slapped in the face with a wet fish.

"Bar Leutenant"? "McEvoy"?

It's difficult to even take the criticism seriously.

You are correct, those are unforgivable spelling errors. Everything else I said is true though.

You are right those are unforgivable spelling errors.

I agree apart from the acting. I didn't hate the movie, but it wasn't great despite trying very hard to be. I thought McAvoy was brilliant in it, but that's the usual case for him. The film itself had its moments, but it definitely not worth a repeat view.

I thought the movie was brilliant. It's based off of Irvine Welsh's best seller plus you have director Jon S. Baird who directed Cass which is a really good movie, working with James McAvoy who never disappoints. I loved it and McAvoy's performance was by far one of my favorite performances of 2013.
