Met and then exceeded all expectations! Great film.

The Wolverine is exceptional in every way. It's an awesome action flick that totally surpasses its predecessors. It ultimately stays true to its comic-book roots while finding a unique and believable pivot point for an outstanding film all on its own. Take out all the action and you’d still have an entertaining character drama. That says a ton.

It's not just that this movie is more character driven yet still delivered thrilling action sequences, though that's true. Rather, it's that there's a whole story here. The Wolverine starts with the perfect pace and springboards in to aspects of the classic Miller/Claremont Marvel Comics mini-series in breath-taking ways. It's a multi-faceted tale with an emotional richness seldom associated with films in this genre.

Too much of 2013 has given us good reason to equate summer movies with empty, flash-bang exercises in computer-generated imagery and mindless action. (Yes, I’m looking right at Star Trek and Man of Steel when I say that) But the writers here are as interested in the subtext as they are in the high quality action. There's no denying that mutant powers are a tool but it’s the character depth that really drives this film. They use state-of-the-art special effects to deliver a live-action version of the comic books. What fans already know, however, is that vintage Marvel books are classics because of intelligent writing as much as comic book flare and fantasy. The movie delivers tremendous story and skillfully weaves together character, plot and action.

It’s just plain spectacular on any level that you judge it.

Right up there as my second favorite X-Men movie.

reply

Forget just X-Men, my favorite of the year so far.

If Fox doesn't sign James Mangold for more films then Marvel should for another project. This film is too awesome to let him leave the genre.

reply

James did a masterful job.

Why I loved this movie? Because it showed that Logan is more than a pair of claws and mutton chops.

If Fox doesn't sign Mangold for more I'd bet anything that Marvel Studios nabs him for something.

Someone else said it best, "Superhero movies are no longer merely visual pyrotechnics for the prepubescent, popcorn-munching masses. They are films driven by questions about character and motivation, and a little existential angst." The Wolverine delivers all this and we can now add another fine film to the comic adaptation achieves right next to the best of the Iron Man and Spider-Man movies.

reply

Really, this movie places ahead of the last two Iron Man and Spider-Man efforts and ahead of every Batman film ever made in people are being honest.

reply

You won't be disappointed. The long takes showing the Japanese landscape look glorious as do the violent fight scenes.

reply

This movie really is a well written film with superb performances all around.

The script is perfect as it develops the character in interesting ways, continuing and exploring themes from the X-Men films. It met all expectations and then some.

And yet we never lost the quientessential Wolverine! In some scenes, something he says or gruffly grunts or angrily slashes brings us back to why we love the character.

Very enjoyable storytelling and excellent performances, especially from Hugh!

That says it all which is more than a ton.

Angry fans of other films aside, most people agree and most really enjoyed this film.

How could any movie fan in general not just adore this film? It brought elements of a lot of great genres.

reply

Those have like brain damaged films will NOT like this film. It's more than obvious at this point.

The Wolverine is near perfection with a great story, super action, deep characters, and an amazing vision. How can that not meet all expectations?

reply

Nothing can be perfect for everyone. Some fans have expectations that can never be hit beacuse the film they have playing in their head will never be wht hits the screen. near perfection for most is the best we can hope for.

reply

I can't think of a thing I'd change in this movie. Usually I have some gripe but I just loved everything the did.

reply

It's like very few other films in tha regard. Avengers, Spider-Man 2, etc.
