...Bella and Max put Godwin's brain into Blessington's body instead of the goat's? It would have saved his life and given him a younger healthy body plus Blessington's wealth. Instead they let him die and turned Blessington into a lunatic.

In my opinion, it seems like the director either didn't think about this possibility at all or just decided to wrap up the film with a comedic twist (not that anyone with an average sense of humor would burst into laughter at such an utterly preposterous scene).
