This movie is funny. The reason why people hate it...

Its because most of the people on this website don't understand good comedy writing. They think that The Hangover is God's special gift to comedy. This movie is like a early 90's late 80's throw back up there with The Great Outdoors.

I know I'll get trolled and flamed for this but I don't care I know comedy when I see it. This movie makes me laugh from the witty comments to the slapstick humor.

"Its because most of the people on this website don't understand good comedy writing."

Yes, maybe this movie is comedy genius and through some bizarre turn of events the majority of people who saw it couldn't grasp that genious.
But I'd argue a) That that wasn't the case.
And b) Maybe a comedy film aimed at the majority of the viewing public should be written in a manner that allows them to understand it.

Though, the fact that many comedic films considered classics hold high scores on this website suggests that most of the people on this website do understand good comedy writing.

Please die. Your the reason these stupid movies keep getting made! I hate these movies! Just tell me, you actually laughed out loud at the rob Schneider song? The wasted jokes by the kids? The dog barking? These movies are so bad that I almost wish something would happen in Sandlers life that would make him stop making especially creating these movies!

I agree. This movie is pretty funny, THE FIRST COUPLE TIMES YOU WATCH IT. The more and more you watch it, the more you start notice the already somewhat apparent negatives.

Pros:
* lot of famous actors
* genuinely fun to watch
* couple good laughs

Cons:
* slapstick comedy (never gets old.......atleast I thought)
* Adam Sandler, quit while your ahead. Please!!! While I still like you.
* same ol', same ol'

6/10

good comedy writing...wow. I'd bet money that there wasn't even a scipt and they just shot whatever they wanted to. This movie as PAINFUL to sit through. Good comedy writing...LMAO that statement was a million time funnier than anything in this movie.

I really don't think you know what is funny if you liked this movie. Do you think Jay Leno is funny?
I looked forward to watching this movie since I like a lot of his movies and some of them are all time top 20 comedy classics, I found absolutely NOTHING in this movie funny. It was filled with obvious inside jokes and cruel stupid unnecessary insults. Example: The old woman that was dating Rob Schneider's character, Why would you insult her like that? That was mean and uncalled for and in no way funny. Another example: The Body Builder at the water park with the odd voice, why would those women be so cruel to that guy and laugh in his face over his voice? This movie had ZERO humor in it unless you find cruelty funny, do you watch those ASPCA commercials and giggle while the changing pictures of abused dogs and cats are shown on the screen? Please name something funny in this movie, I've watched it more than 5 times in search of just one thing, still looking.

So you honestly didn't even laugh once watching this movie? I find that hard to believe, maybe you just don't want to admit it. I'd think anyone with any kind of sense of humor would laugh at some of the stuff in the movie. You say it was filled with cruel stupid jokes, well I'm pretty sure that 3/4 of the comedies out that have those kind of jokes. Also you don't watch an Adam Sandler movie and not expect any mean jokes. I mean seriously now. In the end, it's just a movie and that's all. Even my 50 year old father who usually doesn't laugh much at a lot of comedies laughed a ton in this movie. It's just silly fun.

I find it funny how anyone who dislikes this movie is immediately categorized as someone who "doesn't understand comedy"

Haha...really? Grown Ups received a 10 % rating on rottentomatoes. That mean's 90 % of the critics felt that it wasn't a good film. Withover 67 thousand votes on IMDB, Grown Ups has an average rating of 5.8 which is well below the standard for what you would consider a good movie.

So are you saying 90 % of the critics and the majority of the 67 thousand imdb voters "dont understand good comedy writing" and somehow you and that very minuscule population of people who actually enjoy the film are people who truly understand comedy?

No one is going to knock you for liking a bad comedy. It's your personal preference. We all have our own taste in what we find funny and we don't find funny. But to defend a movie where the large majority of the people who have seen it has labeled it as a terrible film and to say we're all somehow wrong is ridiculous!

Wow, everyone needs to chill. There is no "good" or "bad" comedy. The movie was meant to entertain the people who enjoy this humor (ME!). Guess what? It worked! If you don't like it, then here's a hint: DON'T WATCH IT. That's not difficult. Adam Sandler didn't advertise this movie saying "Everyone who watches this movie will love it." So I don't see why some people are so angry about disliking the movie. Find one movie where every single person who watched it liked it?
Cruel? IT'S A MOVIE.
Seriously though, stop trying to argue over whether or not it's funny. That's the dumbest argument I've ever seen on these boards, and trust me I've seen some stupid ones. I love this movie, and thought the Hangover was okay. Think about Bridesmaids and all of the money that movie has made: I liked it, but one of my friends hated it. That's life, people. Some people think things are funny and some people don't. Everyone has a different sense of humor, it'd be weird if we didn't.

If I had a dollar for every time I've seen someone write "If you don't like it, don't watch it", I'd have enough to buy snacks at a movie theatre at least. I'd find it EXTREMELY difficult to like any movie I haven't seen, but I can dislike a movie I have seen.

I thought there were some funny scenes (fixing the car, the arrow), and some that tried to be funny and fell flat (what was up with the laughter during a funeral, and the pee jokes?), but yeah, it's definitely not a great comedy, and it's a mediocre story, so that's why it gets a below average score. At least it's better than those (something) Movie "comedies".
