I felt this film was MORE boring than The King's Speech, actually. The King's Speech was a bit bland but much easier to sit. Inception dragged on at numerous times, despite a bunch of cool action scenes in the dream sequences.
To me The King's Speech and Inception were not so great because of exactly the opposite reasons. The King's Speech was too predictable were as Inception was too unpredictable to the point of it becoming gimmicky. Neither film is bad but neither film is also a favourite of mine.
I've now watched The King's Speech twice, effortlessly. Haven't yet managed to sit Inception through for the second time without falling to sleep. Sure, Inception had a clever idea and execution, but based on rewatch value, I think King's Speech was, marginally, more deserving the statue. OTOH, maybe Inception winning the prize would have done some good for the oscar institution. TKS was undeniably a traditional choice.
The first half of Inception is mostly exposition on how it all works and what they are going to do, its like showing your friend a new sports car you just bought but spending the majority of the time under the hood showing how it is able to drive then taking it for a spin for 10 minutes.
Its pretty good film in my opinion, but exposition none the less. Nolan can even make exposition scenes intriguing and interesting.
They are both fine movies overall.
2011 Oscars was a pretty strong year and it was nice to see The Kids Are All Right in there to. It was neck a neck with the most Oscar baity film winning out.
Yeah you've got some nerve calling another film boring when you're talking about Inception. DiCaprio gave a serviceable performance and the plot was pseudo-intellectual nonsense.
I think the movie had a nice, thoughtful plot, and the visuals were pretty.
But I’m not sure about the acting. I think DiCaprio was a little cringe-worthy at times. Watching him here, I sometimes would see his character from The Departed, Blood Diamond, and Shutter Island all show up at different times. And then there was Ellen Page.
The King's Speech shouldn't won, but Inception is worse winner, the best picture of that year is The Social Network.
Inception reminds me of Transformers, really simple plot, tons of actions, so much actions to the level of annoy, you just want to close eyes and ears.
Hmmm... okay, a best picture nomination, I can go with that. But win over King's Speech? Nah. King's Speech was a great period piece and very well acted.
But then you just can't be serious when you say that it was DiCaprio's performance.... right?
