Horrible Music that ruined a beautiful Movie
There is no excuse for the producers and directors not to have seen how stupid it was to link the movie of the 1920's with the music they chose. It is what has kept me from purchasing the movie.

shareI expected to hear something like Parov Stelar's electro swing. This was such a great chance to use it and they blew it. Using Jay-Z when you have this Austrian guy making music that was DESTINED for this film is just a cynical, money-grabbing cop out. The music damn near RUINED the film (oneitis did). SHAME!
shareYes I do realize this is an old thread but regardless, I believe I have a point worth making.
I also believe that the hip-hop songs used during certain scenes was entirely inappropriate for the era that the film was set in. I have seen this film a few times and each time I viewed it was during different "circumstances". During a few of these particular "circumstances" I was able to realize something quite revealing. Notice that when the hip-hop music is played during a scene, it is only during a scene that is portraying obnoxious behavior. Perhaps the use of it was subversive and intended to unconsciously create association to the "animals and beasts" that the book had mentioned....
“IF I took this cigarette and put it out on you, would you love me?”

EXACTLY what I thought. Great actors, great directing, great screenplay of a great book... and the WORST POSSIBLE MUSIC.
I can't stand it. And I REALLY wanted to buy this movie.
You know what they say... no one with missing teeth wears an Armani suit.
I agree to the fullest limit.
The people in charge wasted so much good music from the 20s.
But it´s a film with kids and mostly for kids.
I don't agree because even though it took place in the 20's, I think the purpose of this movie is to make a connection with today. Like a tale told by the character down to us, threw is book, like it is a timeless story. There is not much details about the time, more about the story.
