First episode in, already annoyed at the lack of accuracy

First of all Oxford doesn't have a particle accelerator. Second of all there are no "Cherenkov tanks" at a particle accelerator. Thirdly they suicided the hottest actress on the show in the first 15min.

For a show about science they couldn't hire a physicist to supervise the script?

Also the anti-Chinese propaganda is hilarious.

reply

I doubt such a dumb dialog took place in real life during the cultural revolution, where the militia dismiss science, the big bang theory and god at the same time. Probably usamerican propaganda, but I haven't read the source material. There's also a Chinese series, which is far more appreciated in its homeland than this one.

The cherenkov tank scene also seemed ridiculous at first, it looked like Cerebro from Xmen. Actually, the real place exists, though it's not a cherenkov tank, but a cherenkov neutrino detector, which holds that giant tank.

Maybe not so far fetched to be located at the same facility alongside a particle accelerator? I'm not an expert by any means, but I'd love to know more about it.

Isn't Eiza González the hottest actress in the show?

reply

or Marlo Kelly

reply

Eiza would have been the hottest 5 years ago, but, after what she's done to her face... Now the fact that all she did on the show was try to look sexy, that's another story.

“Also the anti-Chinese propaganda is hilarious.”

The author is Chinese 🇨🇳 🤷‍♂️

reply

The author is indeed chinese, but the book has a total of ZERO anti-Chinese propaganda. Yes, there are criticism, and good ones, to the excesses of the revolution and other aspects of the Chinese government, but the author is never anti-communism nor anti-revolution, let alone against China as a nation. All this garbage and all the whitewashing were added by Dumb & Dumber. And this indeed makes the anti-Chinese propaganda both hilarious and hateful.

reply

What "anti-Chinese" propaganda did you see in the TV show that was not present in the book? I have read the book and I have just finished watching the show and the only negative depictions of China that I saw (the brutality and the depravity of the Cultural Revolution) were also present in the book, only even more prominent.

reply

Yeah..I’d bet quite a bit of cash that the author is anti-“cultural revolution”.

I guess in this world all those things exist! I thought some of the other actresses were hot too so there is that.
