Mike Flanagan In Talks To Direct Universal’s Next Exorcist Film

Universal’s Exorcist requel trilogy just got a boost, with Mike Flanagan in talks to direct the next film. Deadline reports that Flanagan (Doctor Sleep, The Haunting of Hill House) is in discussions to take on the follow-up film to last year’s Exorcist: Believer for Universal and Blumhouse.

If Flanagan does sign on, he would be taking over from David Gordon Green who stepped back from directing the second film back in January. Green co-wrote and directed Exorcist: Believer but had to step back from the follow-up, which was last reported as being titled Exorcist: Deceiver, due to his commitments to the Ben Stiller movie Nutcrackers and The Righteous Gemstones season four."

Please Hollywood, just make it stop.. The obsession Hollywood has with movies involving Possession and the Devil is perplexing?? 🙄

Exorcist movies are overdone. Flanagan is a good director, but I think they need to take a very long break from possession themed movies and do something.

He'd be a step up from David Gordon Green that's for sure but I'm not particularly interested in any more The Exorcist movies, in saying that of course I'd check it out at some point.

Flanagan certainly managed to make Ouija: Origin of Evil a hell of a lot better than Ouija, so maybe he is a good choice to turn this around.

I never bothered with the first Ouija given it's horrid reputation. I did check out Ouija: Origin of Evil and it was pretty good.

It won't take too much to make a better movie than The Exorcist: Believer.

They ruined the gimmick with the last film. It would have been better to take a serious approach and get it 100% right for the first direct sequel to the original film with original cast members. Now there is a turd floating around that they have to connect the next film to or try and figure out a way to delete it and advertise like Believer never happened and this is the new sequel to the original. A near impossible task.

Couldn't possibly be worse than the last one. Here's a thought, don't make any more. "The Exorcist III" was great and was written and directed by the author of the original novel. Just stop. Please.

'"The Exorcist III" was great'

That is true.
