intense religious themes at end ruin this decent comedy

i was misled thinking this was going to be a campy "make fun of armageddon movie" but instead it actually IS an armageddon movie after mostly as a comedian buddy movie. the last 1/3 of the movie turns into a fanatical christian tale of who gets to heaven. there is no joke about it, it's treated real and it doesn't fit the movie at all. the sacrifice instant access to heaven *beep* it just makes a turn into blatant propaganda for the church after a halfway decent flick that i got some chuckles from. its good to see other threads also mentioning how this is despicable. hollywood is special needs shortbus challenged.

I said it before and i'll say it again. Seth Rogen is Jewish. When they start talking about Jesus and the Bible (meaning the New Testament) and such, it just doesn't make sense. Also, all the cussing and such IN Heaven, and smoking pot, would never be ok in Heaven. It was a dumb movie with a lot of potential to be a great movie.

I'm pretty sure pot smoking would be okay in Heaven. It's a gift from God on Earth, after all.

...dammit, Hershberg! Donnie, bring that other one over here... alive!

and then imaging how many of these 'actors' are jews and dont even believe in heaven... *beep* fake zionist sellouts

reply

Actually, Jews do believe in heaven... but just one that's exclusive to those of Jewish heritage.

Unfortunately, there just isn't enough room for Gentiles like us in their heaven.

You don't know what the hell you're talking about. As a Jew let me school you: Most Jews don't think race or religion has anything to do with what happens when you die. Also not every Jew believes in Heaven. Some Jews believe in reincarnation or the resurrection of the dead after the end of this world period. Not every Jew even believes in life after death. There is no universal teaching of what happens when you die in Judaism.

Now shut the hell up and don't talk about things you don't know about.

I didn't think it was that intense. It's a story loosely based on the Biblical version of the Apocalypse. It wasn't preachy, it just followed through with the plotline that started with the Rapture. How else was it supposed to end? Do you feel the same way about The Ten Commandments? They took some liberties with it (scripture), though. For instance, the Rapture is supposed to happen once and only once. Once it's over and you're still here, you missed the boat. So their individual trips after redeeming themselves was a bit contrived. The fire and brimstone environment was a bit excessive from a Biblical standpoint, but necessary for the movie.

C'mon, it IS just a movie, and is allowed to entertain the ideas of religious dogma if it serves the story, which it did. And don't you think Heaven was a bit cliche? Pearly Gates, clouds underfoot, all white wardrobes (even Rogen's glasses were changed to white frames). Halos? A "Hollywood Heaven" if I've ever seen one.

I quit believing in God when I was about 12 despite all the "churching" I had had up to that point, and remain an Atheist to this day. And I enjoyed the hell out of this movie.

Thanks for the warning... was considering watching this. Unfort americans are too unimaginative intellectually to fully challenge anything establishment. Maybe it would be better if made by the French. (case in point : Parkour - typically Parisian anarchic urban guerilla activity - Yanks put it inside GYMS, with fake graffiti and stuff. Just embarrassing).

You are missing out if you go by what that moron wrote.

I'm an antitheist and enjoyed the hell out of the movie. It was much more fun than Pineapple express and the regular Judd Apatow movies.

*Yawn* whatever atheist.

I'm very much an Athiest/Humanist. I have very little respect for people that are gung ho into any religion.

With that said, I found this movie hilarious.

I was wondering why such a hilarious comedy movie only got a 6.9... but after reading this thread, I've realized it was because of over-sensitive religious fanatics like the OP.

Nowadays, a parody doesn't have to be like SCARY MOVIE. This, THE CABIN IN THE WOODS, ENCHANTED, the Cornetto Trilogy and most episodes of COMMUNITY spent half of the time being that they were making fun of.
