the low ratings is due to racism
who agrees ?

I think so.
Let's be clear - none of these Disney Star Wars shows are particularly good. And I'm including Andor here, the so called "grown up" Star Wars show.
They all suffer for terrible writing, Acolyte included. But it's definitely no worse than Ashoka was (which even managed to screw up it's own cartoon continuity) and actually has an interesting storyline, which may be leaning into Lucas' own midi-chlorian life creation manipulations.
Also as well as the possible racist angle, you also have the anti anything remotely gay-ish brigade. I mean, just look at hoo-ha re the last episode! I genuinely thought we must be heading for some actual lesbian love scenes given the pre match commotion. What did we actually get?
A coven of witches. And that was it! A coven of witches... I mean, Mon dieu - what a brand new, modern day woke concept! A group of female witches. Who'd have believed it 😂.
No matter what anyone says...the cartoons are not concrete canon. Most of the general star wars viewers don't watch them. Only hardcore fans. So they will adjust or reinterpret as they see fit....
i don't think so.
it's another cultural product where people of color are noble & heroic & pale males are at best tired & misguided, at worst contemptable & worthless. more of the same. with the added bonus that we have lesbian pocs to guide us in this one.
it would have been nice if the franchise that was the biggest cultural phenomenon of my generation & had a mainly male (& mainly white) fan base would have sidestepped that, but instead they seem to have gone right into the deep end.
i don't think it's surprising that the core fan base of a franchise won't sit back & take being treated with contempt. nobody should. i hate this pandering trash. it's everywhere. omnipresent. we swim in it every day.
Create your own shit instead of appropriating white male culture.
share...appropriating white male culture.
You kind of don't know which side he was on.
shareI doesn't really matter. Just hilarious whether you like Star Wars or not that you'd find it of cultural significance to the white man...
shareI was just saying he seemed to make an effort to sound as bigoted as possible, in a way making anyone criticising the show look bad.
So I am thinking she could be a feminist under cover, as a way of more sophisticated trolling.
When Star Wars first came out this country was about 85% to 90% white. So, yes, the show is a victim of cultural appropriation. Go to Japan, go to India (Bollywood) see how many white people or black people or Hispanic people they have in those films. Are you going to call them racist because they don't hire white people? Probably not. That type of thing only happens in this country because people have no perspective of what it was like during that time and only measure past films diversity through the lens of now. It's sad, immature and it shows their complete ignorance of American history. But what the heck, since the current generation doesn't like past history, they just complain about it and try to alter it- it's really quite pathetic.
shareTo be fair, Japan and Korea are almost entirely monoethnic. 90% is quite different to 99%. India isn't, but then the % of white or hispanic or black people there is very low. I'm just speaking generally.
shareTo be fair, how much does any country (aside from this one in current broken times) pander to 9% of the freakin' population? No country is dumb enough to do that (except the modern USA). So, I stand by what I said. This country at the time of the original release of the Star Wars movies (the original 3) was 85 to 90% white. It was a white franchise. The country was white dominated and (during that time) there was no need to be inclusive to 9 to 10% of the country. That isn't being racist it's just stating facts. If you want to make money as a business, you cater to the largest target audience - which (in a logical country) is the highest percentage of whatever color your population is. This is why Disney is losing millions upon millions of dollars. The people running it are pandering to a certain minority of the population and the rest of the population has no interest in what interests that demographic.
You can call me a racist if you want, but I am not. I am just using facts and logic. If I were a film maker in Japan I would cast a 99% Japanese cast. If I were In China, it would be a 99% Chinese cast. In India it would be a 99% Indian cast. Etcetera. The only deviation I would make from that choice of casting was if a particular role NEEDED to be portrayed by a person of another race or it fit into the confines of the story that a character or group of characters would need to be of another race. The story would always take precedence over diversity that is there just for the sake of diversity.
>To be fair, how much does any country (aside from this one in current broken times) pander to 9% of the freakin' population?
I was speaking generally about people appearing in shows who aren't of the nations primary ethnicity. Not pandering. Everyone in a Korean show is ethnically Korean because that really is their demographics.
There are significant non-white minorities in European countries, and in the USA - so it makes more sense you'd see them.
Yes, nowadays (I'm not disputing that), but not so much in 1977 due to our country's demographics during that time.
shareShould people in the motherland, i.e. England, consider Star Wars part of British culture as well?
Should it be considered right up there alongside Shakespeare, Keats, Dickens, etc as one of cornerstones of British cultural significance?
Should Star Wars be consisted considered British culture? No.
Should it be considered white culture, like everything you mentioned as well as Arthurian, Norse, Greek, and Roman mythologies? Yes.
Greek and Roman mythology is white culture? Really?
shareYes. Do you really think they’re not?
shareWow, that's interesting.
No, absolutely not. I thought they were Greek and Italian culture. I had no idea they were white culture!
Well, the more you know, kiddo.
shareThank you.
Do you think the Greeks and the Italians know this as well?
e.g. If you went up to someone in Athens say, and told them that their culture was the same as Norwegians, wouldn't they be slightly shocked?
If you wanna tell them they’re just like Norwegians, be my guest. Let me know how that goes.
Whites have many different cultures, just like Asians do. Stating that a Japanese person and a Chinese person are Asian is no different than stating that a Greek and a Norwegian person are white.
But you're talking cultures here - and that's a bad analogy anyway as Asian is refering to the geographic location. I don't think Norway is particularly on the doorstep of Athens or anything...
So I don't really understand you. Are you saying that there's an overall, supreme white culture which encompasses people with no cultural attachments whatsoever?
How far are you planning on derailing this conversation?
Everyone but you knows they’re both white, and that “Asian” refers to both a group of people and a location. Not even trolls have stooped this low, why play this game?
How can I "derail" my own conversation? 🤔 You replied to me not vice versa...
Norway and Greece do not share a location yet you seem to be saying they share a culture because they're both "white". Even that is a kind of incredible Venn diagramming to attempt to claim they have a shared "culture".
Do you think that Greeks and Norwegians look remotely similar and what is your understanding of the word culture?
Yes, because they’re both white, just like the Japanese and Chinese are both Asian. They don’t need to share a location to be considered white. People spread out and travel, you know that, right? White culture is culture made by whites, just as Asian culture is culture made by Asians.
We went from calling Star Wars white culture to you supposedly not knowing what “white” is, that’s how you’re derailing it. I was giving you the benefit of the doubt, but if you’re gonna play coy, do it elsewhere.
I never said ANYWHERE I didn't know what white was. I questioned you re this white culture business.
And no, your Asian analogy is absolute nonsense. Japanese and Chinese may have some shared culture absolutely due to the proximity of their locations.
There is no such context for Greek and Norwegians having any cultural similarities. Claiming a shared culture based on being "white" is absurd.
No one from either of these countries would claim any similarities, only a third party with a supremacist agenda would be crazy enough to put forward such an incredible claim...
What supremacist agenda? They're white. Italians, Greeks, Norwegians, Germans, French, Spanish, Brits, etc, they're all white.
King Arthur, Hercules, Thor, and Luke Skywalker are all products of white culture.
Likewise the Chinese, Japanese, Koreans, Vietnamese, Indonesians, Thai, etc, they're all Asian.
Sun Wukong, Yamato, Dangun, and Goku are all products of Asian culture.
How is stating the obvious a "sUpReMaCiSt AgEnDa"?
That is the narrative they are going to use when the show fails.
But I think the low rating is more than merited.
Yep. The show sucks because the story is a totally unoriginal mediocrity, the writing and dialogue are embarrassingly bad, and the acting is wooden. Now on top of that, throw in the fact that the creators were clearly obsessed with "representation" over everything else, and put a bunch of "diverse" self-inserts into the show. This means their priority was off. Priority should be to put out entertaining stories about interesting and relatable characters. That priority firmly takes a backseat to pushing The Message. So the show is just the latest in a string of politically correct bad-to-mediocre shows that Disney has been churning out since it bought Star Wars from George Lucas. That they are bad or at best mediocre would be bad enough, but add in the woke agenda, and they haven't just failed to entertain the audience, they've pissed the audience off, because people are sick of being lectured, scolded, and told what are the correct opinions and attitudes to have.
But Lucasfilm, with Kathleen Kennedy in charge, just won't change its approach. And honestly, in this case, it's like they took that South Park episode as a playbook, rather than mockery, so they really set this one up for failure. And sure enough, they've already started doing what woke Hollywood has been doing at least since Lady Ghostbusters from 2016: when it bombs, accuse the audience of being -ists, and -phobes, and call it "toxic fandom."
These hacks deserve to fail.
I think it is sort of clever that when they fail they blame the audience not progressive enough, if they succeeded they would just claim what they did worked, they were right all alone.
I think it is at least partially a butt covering strategy, that is what happens when someone incompetent is in charge.
Let me translate that narrative for you. Instead of manning up...or womanning up in this case and taking responsibility for making crap material more focused on identity politics than anything even remotely in the realm of entertainment their just gonna hide behind the mean wacist defense. Sure and Howard the duck was a masterpiece. It was those animal hating sons of bitches that made it flop.
shareNah, I think you're just really stupid. Or a really bored troll.
Honestly, I go for the latter, nobody can be this stupid.
