'This is the End' has a higher rating... americans.

The World's End was refreshing, hilarious, deep, smart, dynamic and touching at the same time.

How the hell that stupid, pointless movie about idiot celebrities is better than this movie?
Pineapple Express was funny, but This is the End is not even close to it.

I also noticed a pretty big difference in age demographics comparing these movies. Maybe this explains everything.

I'm an American and not only have I not seen This is the End, I have no plans to ever see it.
Seth Rogen just doesn't impress me and I don't really find his brand of humor in the least bit funny.
That all being said, I know he has many, many fans and I'm glad that even though I don't agree with them, we are all able to voice our like or dislike for whatever we care to.
After all, it would be a very boring place if we all had to feel the same way about everything, wouldn't it?

reply

You should. I didn't like any Seth Rogen movie before, but This is the End is really really good. No more of the weed comedy either.

reply

I'm ashamed to admit that my son convinced me to watch This is the End.
I'm not ashamed to admit that my original thoughts about it were correct. I didn't care for the movie.
There are plenty of people out there that enjoyed it, and that's fine with me, but Seth's humor is still not to my liking.

reply

I'm not sure how Seth Rogen is in so many movies. Guy just isn't funny to me. Don't know if it's his delivery or what, but no way he should be headlining movies.

Amy: I swear to God...I swear to God! That is NOT how you treat your human!

reply

The movies of his that I have seen all seem to have the same formula for comedy as so many other of the modern day "comedians". They aren't funny enough to make you laugh outright so they do something so inappropriate that you laugh as a form of stress relief and if that doesn't work they do something that is downright disgusting and hope that gets you.
I agree that there is no way Seth Rogen should be headlining movies. I'm not even sure he should be parking cars for the truly talented.
Just my opinion, but there you go.

reply

Don't be a xenophobic douche. I'm sorry we kicked you out of our country and made you our bottom b*****s for the past few centuries, but that's no reason to be petty. As an American, I think these were the two best movies of the summer. World's End was a little smarter and a definite classic, but I honestly laughed more at This is the End and like it just a tad more overall. Hopefully you forgive Americans for being better than you at everything someday and learn to enjoy This is the End as much as I enjoyed The World's End.

reply

You talk as if you, YOU PERSONALLY, did any of those things.

Everything you said happened hundreds of years ago.

Just because you were fortunate enough to have been born on that island does not give you right to claim the achievements of your predecessors as your own.

Wormhat was obviously trolling, but I can't help commenting on this bit here:

Yet, people of all cultures seem to believe they were personally involved in their respective nations' illustrious histories, no? I couldn't tell you how many times I've had to listen to arrogant Greeks explain how "we invented democracy". It's ludicrious and maddening.

reply

Thank you. As a greek this drives me crazy as well . I cannot count how many times I quoted "stop being proud of your ancestors and start making your progeny proud of you", when an idiot mentions democracy or any ancient achievement as his own. We cant even preserve democracy in Greece , and it looks like it will die here , where it was born.

Anyway well said , I'm off to watch The world's End now :P

reply

Tell me about it! Arabs do that all the time, glamorizing their past glories that is! LOL! As an Arab, it makes me sick. What matters to me is the present! And that, my friend, ain't pretty!

reply

arrogant Greeks explain how "we invented democracy"

Yes, but they neglect to mention that their "Democracy" was dependent upon a culture of slavery! And they forget to mention that they invented buggery!
Now that's selective memory for you!

reply

A bit off-topic, but I find the same annoying behavior in many sports fans. They often say "we" did this or that during a game, when their contribution was nothing more than sitting on a couch sucking down beers. Not that there is anything wrong with that last part, but "we" didn't win or lose that game; the players did.

reply

Also why do a lot of American males talk about anal sex to seem macho? A heap of repression right there.

Yup, repressed homosexuality.

reply

Since British women don't have impressive butts (or impressive physical features at all), you wouldn't understand the obsession with the female rear end, limey.

reply

American here. Traveled to England for a month last year. Saw more beautiful women in London than I have in any other city I've been to. You know not of what you speak.

To say something on topic... I tried to watch 'This Is the End' and couldn't make it through. It was almost 100% penis/homophobic/rape jokes in a movie that is essentially a circlejerk of mediocre Hollywood actors playing themselves. It was horrible.

I apologize on behalf of America. 'The World's End' is far superior.

reply

Yeah, but checking your posts, you seem to have some sort of Anglophile hard-on to the point where you seem as if you'd readily comply to shine a Brit's shoe with your tongue if he asked you to. No wonder you use your quotes like 'this' instead of "this".

reply

My grandparents immigrated to the US from England. I grew up hearing about it, and it's my heritage. During my trip to the UK I visited the ruins of the castle that bore my family name. If that translates to 'Anglophile hard-on' to you, then so be it.

As for the single quotes, that's a habit I picked up from being practically raised on British authors. 'The Hobbit' was the book that got me into reading as a child. To me single quotes just look right.

Plus it saves you from having to use the shift key...

reply

I didn't ask you to tell me your stupid family history. In fact, I don't remember starting a conversation with you at all. Get lost.

reply

Ah, you're a troll, got it.

reply

You started the conversation with me I didn't ask for, give me information about your life I didn't ask for, and when I point out I don't care for the conversation or your life story, you accuse me of being a person who goes out of his way to piss you off?

If you start a conversation with me, it's not my job to be nice to you or care about what you have to say. If you can't deal with it, get lost.

reply

And yet, despite not caring, you bothered to read and respond. Not to mention the fact that you chose to read through my past posts for some reason. Weirdo.

Troll.

reply

London isn't representative of Britain/UK as it has a higher than average proportion of immigrants. Once you head North you'll see standards and variety drop significantly. Both the UK and USA are full of fat people nowadays but overall, the USA has better weather, a more varied mix (everyone is an immigrant) and more choice 150million vs 30million. However, Europe is nearby which easily beats both UK and USA!

reply

The multi-billion dollar American porn industry makes more in a week than the British porn industry and regular British film industry makes in a year. Not bad for a country of repressed people.

reply

Nice petty retaliation, there. As a matter of fact, I think you got petty down better than the OP did.

Top post!

reply

The word you should have used is digress rather than digest, other than that lol!

reply

People keep calling this movie smart, but it isn't anything of the sort. These guys haven't been on that level since Hot Fuzz maybe even Shaun. This movie and Paul are not very intelligent at all, they seem very American in comparison too.

reply

Paul isn't one of 'their' movies any more than "How To Lose Friends And Alienate People" or "Star Trek Into Darkness". Having Simon Pegg in the cast isn't what connects the Cornetto trilogy.

The connection is, of couse, Edgar Wright i.e. the director of Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz.

Not sure what is supposed to be American about a movie where the main features are British pubs and pub crawls. If you cannot recognise the Britishness here then it may be that there are other elements, perhaps very intelligent elements, that are also passing you by. That's not to undermine your own intelligence, but simply to suggest that this film might be a commentary on ideas which you are unfamiliar with.

reply

no ! watch family guy , its what peter says , geddit? lol

GENUINELY: laughed at what? in the entire movie, what? I found no jokes, funny gags or even an enjoyable scene what so ever. The only scene that got any kind of rise out of me was the talking about raping Hermione, that was it.

Forgive Americans for being better than Brits at everything, are you out your mind? how many British tv shows where remade by Americans hoping to cash in on their success??

Why do we have to do this stupid smug thing where we put down an entire nation for not enjoying a movie we feel is better than some other movie they enjoyed?

Who really cares?

You can't even compare the two films because they are approached in an entirely different manner and really have nothing in common other than a word in their titles.

'This is the End' had a wider release than 'The World's End' so that could factor into people just not having seen it, as opposed to them just being 'stupid Americans' because thy didn't like your 'more awesome' film.

I mean...if you really are that serious about movie rating systems, you'd know not to take iMDB's seriously at all.

People rate movies a 10 or a 1 that they don't intend to see, and Shawshank Redemption is listed as the top film ever made based on user votes.

It's a joke.

I liked The World's End much better than This Is The End, but I am not going to attack people who felt the opposite of that.

Again, who cares?

If you enjoyed the movie, leave it at that.

reply

The worlds end was a well thought out film but pineapple express was funnier to me. I liked "the words end" and it had some of the brilliance that "spaced" had but it also had a few problems I think. The beginning where you see them as teens was a bit unnecessary and the ending after the network crashed was ridiculously cheesy and too revealing. It really cheapened the film for me.

But hey, I'm American and I'm a Danny Mcbride fan. Pineapple express is full of that silliness you can watch over and over again.

WAIT, you're talking about this is the end? oooh haven't seen it yet, but I'll get back to you on that. :)

"the day I tried to live, I learned that I was alive"

reply

Ugh. I hate seeing topics like this.

As a movie, The World's End is better. Better technique, better story, and it has more heart.

But, I would sooner watch This is the End, to be honest. I had an absolute ball with it. Fast-paced, laugh-out-loud funny, and not as dumb or as undisciplined as most American comedies.

I saw both movies at the cinema twice.

Don't try to act superior. It makes you look like an elitist twat.

They were both kinda disappointing. Especially The World's End. I loved Shaun but this movie stunk. I lost my interest completely halfway through
