Worse than bad...STUPID!!!

Like many people here, I would agree that this was a very poor film with an incredibly bad ending. What was really stupid was the idea that there is "inbred" dangerous trailer trash living in Bergen County, NJ! Bergen County, NJ is one of the most affluent counties in the United States, largely populated by wealthy professionals who work next door in Manhattan. The small parts of the Appalachian trail that reside in NJ are completely commercialized for Boy Scouts and yuppie hikers and the only people who live there are those wealthy enough to build their own homes by these magnificent views. By what ignorance and disregard for realism does the filmmaker want to place characters from Deliverance into this elite suburb? It's like the filmmaker wanted so badly to emulate elements of The Deer Hunter and Deliverance that he just randomly decided to make up a completely ridiculous claim about an upscale suburban New Jersey area. Obviously there are much dumber people in Hollywood than there are in NJ!

This movie was amazing for those who the intellect to understand it. Haven't seen a movie recently with acting this good. I don't have the time nor the desire to explain why some of you should see it but if you like great acting and can understand the meaning behind films like this you will love. If you take things as the person above did, then don't bother with. Rent Pacific Rim instead.

AS others have said, the mountain people of this area are very real. I live about a 3 mile drive & 1 mile hike to the nearest known area. As a kid in the late 1960's early 1970's, everyone knew you just don't go up there. It wasn't "Boogeyman" stories.

Today it's pretty much the same, AFAIK.

The OP probably shouldn't speak when he doesn't know WTF he's talking about.

Did you ever consider, ever, just for a slight moment. Just for a tiny moment, maybe, just maybe that the use of Bergen County was analogous for something?

Yeah? Maybe... Hmm... Probably?

Think about it. Take your time.

Yes and No. Agree and Disagree.

The story is interesting and the acting is on point ... Bale is a talent.

But the direction is more like a TV movie, or a play ... it's not that cinema. I don't want all overdone CGI or chases and explosions, but I want a movie ... film ...a camera that does something.

And, like a TV movie, this should have, could have been 60 minutes, maybe 80. It is slow and drawn out. OK, the slowness represents the life and economy of the characters ... but ... zzzzzzzzzzzzz. Thanks for Bale's talent.

KIAI ... please.

It was drawn out in order to create tension and suspense.

Not all of Bergen County is affluent. No county in the country is ALL rich, middle class or poor. There are always enclaves of different social classes in any state, county and town. Just because the majority of a population is rich or "well off", doesn't mean there aren't poor people there too. Even Camden has some nice communities and Beverly Hills has a few slums I hear. And you can find people like DeGroat in any state.

Saying "stupid American" is the equivalent of bringing up Nazis in an argument to make your point. Hence, you have none.

I'm confused by this talk of NJ. I thought this was set in Braddock, PA. There was a Braddock sign on one of the buildings and the filming locations are all PA except for one in WV. What am I missing?
