Could we, just for once, have a down to earth viking movie or show?

It seems that anything Viking must have obligatory visions, dreams, magic, prophecies, seers, witches and gods interacting with the characters.

Watch the last kingdom. It’s got visions and stuff - but it’s all “real” no supernatural stuff

reply

It might not have supernatural stuff in it but it's still fantasy. It's completely historically inaccurate.

reply

It has all the because the pagan Norse were, like most primitive people, deeply superstitious. All of that stuff was very real to them, and thus, has its place in movies or stories about this era.

reply

You could say the same of medieval Christians, but other than Joan of Arc, most movies remain down to earth.

reply

No you absolutely cannot be sane and see Norse pagans and medieval Christians next to each other in terms of that. In fact, Joan of Arc was one of the rare times such things happened. Norse pagans had way way way more drugs and dreams.

reply

Yeah, I enjoyed this movie, but only the non-fantasy stuff

what i enjoyed seeing the Valkyrie that wasn't Tessa Thompsons from the MCU, its only Video Game Like Both God Of War Games( 2018 & Ragnarok) that we have more "Accurate" Versions of the Aesir-Vanir Gods would like to see another Thor Movie that isn't connected to the MCU also Vikings legitimately believe this stuff makes sense for its inclusion

Have always had an interest in Scandi history but content focused on vikings gets mawkish. Same problem with Japanese history & samurai.

reply

You didn’t like The History Channel’s The Vikings? It was great.

reply

Not if you have even a basic knowledge Vikings or of the time period in general it's not.

reply

Which would be what?

reply

It also had the supernatural stuff I don't like and wasn't really historically accurate. It was somewhat interesting for a few seasons until the main character became a drugged up wreck. I especially liked King Ecbert, which became far more interesting than the vikings characters while he was alive.

reply

That’s valid. Many people did not like the story of Yidu and the betel juice addiction. But the ending of that story by Ragnar was fascinating. This series was on 6-7 years. I liked it very much.

The Northman was in top 3 favorite films of 2022 I enjoyed The Connections to Norse Mythology also Gladiator has Vision Quests too and That Won Best Picture 22 Years Earlier

reply

Why on Earth would anyone want a Viking movie without visions, dreams, magic, prophecies, seers, witches, gods interacting with characters and loooooads of violence and nudity (just not at the same time of course).

reply

Or annoying music. You read my mind.
