Did anyone like Quarantine better than REC?

Just curious...

I agree with what the other poster said... that it depend son which you see first. I saw Quarantine first.... Loved it, saw REC after and IT seemed predictable as i had already seen its remake.

Having seen both, QUARANTINE first (though I knew about [REC] a while before I saw QUARANTINE), I have to say that I found Quarantine to be more enjoyable. The movie does a better job of selling itself as a 'found' tape than [REC], though I think the 'reality horror' concept is stronger in most scenes with [REC]. They're essentially the same movie, though the origin of the virus is handled far better in QUARANTINE.

Absolutely acting and production of that rec movie is awful plus that demonic possession twist makes no sense at all. quarantine movie fix a few plots and improve the whole story

I watched the first fifteen minutes of Rec, then decided to watch the same amount of Quarantine because with this kind of movie reading subtitles makes it *really* difficult to keep up with what's going on.
I stuck with Quarantine because the character in the beginning was much more charming and appealing, and it was really nice to be able to take in everything that was going on instead of trying to read and catch shaky-cam action at the same time.

I'm really glad I finished Quarantine first, because when I went back and watched Rec directly after I could tell that it wouldn't have made as much sense. They added some very helpful tidbits in the American version that made things much more clear and easier to follow (which is essential in a movie that's so frantic everywhere else).

Giving credit where credit is due, the original writers and directors came up with a freaking FANTASTIC concept for a seriously scary and intense zombie movie. I give serious props to those people. Bravo.

The American crew just added and subtracted what was necessary to make a great concept even more effective and coherent. I'm kind of pissed at whoever was responsible for the trailers and promos, though. Showing us the last moment of the movie in every commercial, and even putting it ON THE DVD COVER, was a serious misstep. Other than that, though, it was top notch.

I saw Quarantine first on cable before I knew it was a remake of REC. Even though they are almost shot for shot the same movie, I found Quarantine to be more entertaining. The suspense build up to the first encounter with Mrs. Espinoza then becoming a non-stop fright fest, was pure modern film making executed at it's best. I thought REC was a little tedious and slower paced than Quarantine.

The Government-Military involvement in Quarantine added to the more plausible explanation at the end. Whereas REC used a different explanation which lost all credibility for me. But this is then redeemed a little in REC 2.

Overall, I liked both films but I found Quarantine needed to be made for the "American" audience and rightfully so.

I don't judge remakes just because it's a remake. But Quarantine is a good film too, and here is the question that can have two answers to it. Quarantine is an almost shot-by-shot remake of the original and more or less used the exact same script, and as they did this then how can [Rec] be better if Quarantine is exactly the same down to a pimple?

Answer 1 - Well, Quarantine will be predictable because of us already seeing [Rec], we'd know what happens and get bored. It was just the Americans excuse of remaking it because they were jealous they didn't come up with the idea and wanted to pretend it was theres by making it more mainstream because not many people watch foriegn films.

Answer 2 - That is correct, and as Quaratine is a shot-by-shot remake then it should be exactly the same and have the same feel except for the obvious changes with new and changed scenes. But Quarantine is for the people who haven't seen [Rec], and I read that [Rec] wasn't released in the US until after Quarantine was, so you've got to ask yourself if Quarantine helped the two [Rec] films become more successful.

I'm a huge film fan and love watching any motion picture before my eyes, I am critical but I look at both sides of the story of what in the film is bad and what is good. I don't stick to one side, I always have a balance of a review on it. And my balanced review on Quarantine because I'm not afraid to tell the truth and not say what everyone else wants to hear "Quarantine sucks, bad remake", I truefully, and in my own opinion believe it is a good film and remake. Yes it's 99% shot-by-shot remake, but there is something in Quarantine that feels different to all of the other shot-by-shot remakes in the world.

Quarantine actually got mixed to positive reviews from critics and that's gotta mean something hasn't it? People say they don't listen to movie critics, but film critics can have a major effect on films, if the film is critically panned people will hear about this and even if they dont listen to critics, some won't go and see the film. Some films are critically acclaimed and that can help the box office of the film as people will hear about this and go and watch it. It's not just friends mentioned they've seen it and you do too

I enjoyed both REC and Quarantine, but I think Quarantine is the much better movie. Quarantine was very effective at balancing the threat between what was inside of the building and what was waiting outside for the characters if they tried to leave the building. I also thought that Quaratine's ending was better: While the characters in the ending of [REC] took a while to figure out what they were seeing with the newspaper clippings and the religious paraphernalia, all you had to do was take one look at the empty animal cages in the attic in Quarantine to instantly realize that the surviving characters were screwed. Overall, I think that an amateur terrorist messing around with a bioweapon that he can't control is much, much scarier than what was seen in REC. In REC, I just couldn't buy that a well-meaning priest would choose to treat a girl with an easily transmittable infection/possession in a populated apartment building in a densely populated city; that's just way too dumb for even by horror movie standards, and I could see why the makers of Quarantine opted for a different ending.

wow some of u guys act like Rec is the second comming of Jesus lol but IMO i think it depends on which one u watch first, i guarantee the majority (not all of you) of you guys who loved Rec probably saw it first before u saw Quarantine, everyone who sees the original first always thinks its better than the remake

Kill them all, Let God sort em out

Can't stop laughing. As a film student let me assure you, trying to convince other people that one movie is better than the other is a very very very pointless move. The director sends out a message and the viewers interpret that message.

REC will appeal to certain people, quarantine will appeal to others. If you are not retarded, you understand this. Instead of trying to say that one is better than the other, you should be discussing what you liked, and what you didn't like. Your opinion is not the gospel, morons. Share them. Learn from them.

I really liked the amateur approach that REC took, especially because the professional Hollywood production quality took away from the believability of quarantine. You might like it, you might not- it doesn't mean it's bad. I don't like apples but you don't see me preaching about how terrible it is. Do you fight against your least favorite fruits? If not, why do you do the same with movies?

Oh right, because you guys uneducated swine plaguing the internet with mediocre and poorly thought out criticisms.

Grow up.

Of course, REAL film-lovers like myself and a few other people who have posted are able to enjoy all the little subtle differences in both.
