I watched two movies today - Couples Retreat and The Rebound. In the first one, there were several couples where the man was noticeably older than the woman (the actors'/actresses' real-life ages might not be SOOO far apart, but COME ON, do you actually mean to say Vince Vaughn and Malin Akerman look the same age?). However, no one made a big deal out of it, it wasn't even mentioned except for Faizon Love's girltoy being only 20 (but they weren't a steady couple anyway) and it was treated as completely natural. Now read the IMDB summary for The Rebound: "In New York City, a single mom captivates her new neighbor, a much younger man". Catherine Zeta-Jones and Justin Bartha are only 9 years apart (born in 1969 and 1978, respectively) and neither of them looks old or haggard or bloated (cough*unlike basically all the male leads of Couples Retreat*cough), yet the whole premise of The Rebound is "LOL look at that crotchety old cougar woman robbing the cradle, hardy har har" (though the actual movie itself was more sympathetic to the whole situation, but the mere fact that a woman dating a man 9 years younger than her is soo exceptional that it's the central point of a movie should tell you quite a bit about Hollywood's ageism and sexism).
