Deplatforming them would be a start, but sites like YouTube or Reddit tend to be pretty lax when it comes to doing something about racism, misogyny and other types of hate speech.
IMDB and Rotten Tomatoes and some other review sites claim to be doing something about the constant review bombing of movies the right targets, but it's clearly not enough. This movie is only a 6.2 on IMDB right now, for example.
The quality of the movies isn't the issue so much as toxic fandom. Too many men who are afraid their dicks will fall off if they encounter a strong woman! This movie had three of them, so the right wing incel types were extra aggressive about campaigning against it.
sorry man. i just don't waste money on bad movies. has nothing to do with my sex, my dick, my wing, just the story. never saw any story remotely interesting here.
not gonna buy a ticket to support a fucking cause. It's a movie. it should ENTERTAIN.
Oh yes we do. I stand around every night at theaters playing this film, and look very rapey and also cat calling all the women who try to enter. I alone have stopped millions for watching it. :)
" woooo wooo babeee! Looking hot! How'd you like to marvel at MY captain,eh? Yeah, you know you wanna"
Removing people from social media sites because they're hating on movies is a pretty terrible thing to do.
I get that it's annoying when people just hate on stuff, and I don't like the bad attitudes that people have towards other groups of people, but nobody should just shut other people up because they don't like what they say.
Sites like IMDb should remove reviews/votes prior to the release of movies, because these people are lying (unless they've seen an advance screening; I don't know how IMDb would account for that), but other than that, they should let people have their say.
Also, a movie having a low(ish) rating like 6.2 isn't proof it's being review-bombed. I was just talking with somebody about the movie Demonic, which has a 4.3. We agreed that this movie was better than that and should have a higher rating, but neither of us complained that it was being review bombed or that the rating was clearly a problem, we just felt it was inaccurate.
I hadn't even heard of Demonic. Usually Bloomkamp's movies do well. I'm surprised to see that one so lowly rated. It's his first attempt at horror, too. I'll have to check it out.
It's a solid effort, if a bit by-the-numbers. Some great F/X that purely serve the plot. Don't go in expecting something that'll blow your mind (it's not District 9) but if you go in looking for a dependable horror, it'll probably give you a good time.
Incels and the alt-right is not to blame. Sometimes, movies just do poorly. Barbie was a huge hit this year and the incels didn’t stop that from breaking records.
