POLL: Do you love Cloverfield or hate it?

I'm in the love camp (well, to clarify, I don't absolutely love it but I still really enjoy it and I've watched it a few times), but I understand why others don't like it.

I'm about like you - I don't think it's up there in the all time greats or anything, but it's a good solid film.

Probably my biggest criticisms are the classic one about the camerawork, and that we don't get to see as much of the monsters as I'd like.

People are too hard on this movie, it's undeniably entertaining. I'm fairly jaded with movies but this is one of those films where you grab some popcorn, ignore the few flaws, and just enjoy what it has to offer. If it tried to take itself too seriously I'd feel differently but TJ Millers commentary throughout the film kept the thing grounded.

But what's this got to do with the CIO?

Does it make any sense that I liked the movie but hated the main characters?

Complete sense. I wondered if the characters were written for us to hate them so that when all of them died, we would have had a good movie that we got to watch...but didn't lose any characters that we cared anything about.

Makes sense to me. They were all a bunch of a*sholes, with the parts played perfectly I might add, & I thought it was actually funny when some of them got it.

I definitely hate it.
Until recently Cloverfield was the only movie I'd even considered leaving the theatre in the middle. Last week I saw Jupiter Ascending, so now there's two.(I did finish them both)

I don't have too good reasons to hate Cloverfield. 80% of my hate comes from the camera work. I don't mind found footage style if it's done well, but it rarely is in my opinion.
I honestly got a bit sick in the thatre because of it and I never feel ill like that. 3d,2d,vr, nothing makes me ill, but Cloverfield.

Somehow it was also really boring considering it's supposed to be a monster movie. The actors were bland and I didn't care for them much at all. And the monster was lame(what little was shown).

But... I decided like half way in that I hate the movie, so I'm not objective at all and don't even want to be(isn't that what hate is after all).

I have to agree with you. I didnt see it in the theater but my hate comes from the camera work also. it was really boring for a monster movie and I didnt care the characters at all.

I loved it!
Saw it in the theatre way back when, and as far as I could tell, most people in there with me seemed to love it - or was at least captivated by it. I swear there wasn't a single noise made by anyone other than the occasional gasp.
Bought the dvd when it came out and the shaky camera work was less trying on the eyes when seen on the tv, but then again I don't remember being all that bothered by it in the theatre.

I don't hate it, but I do not love it either. Leaning more toward not liking it due to the hand held camera work. The found footage is being really over used. It would of been nice if they could of went back and forth...between hand held and film. Hoping the sequel will not be found footage style.

I've never heard of this movie today, it looks cool I guess. I suppose I will be watching it at some point, however or not. 😚

I'm... in between? The shakiness, the insipid characters, the fact that if the creature was nuked in Central park, how did the camera (also in Central park) survive the blast, things like that I do not like. However, I do love the suspense the movie has, and the first person perspective helps put you into the movie's world. That said however, the same first-personness that draws you in, creates that shakiness that sickens so many. Sometimes I think the people on hand held cameras purposely shake it more than necessary. I wish we saw some more action as well.
