To any guys on this board: did you cry?

I'm just asking. I think the music during the montage and then the end could make even the most macho man cry. I'm a guy who's turning 21 very shortly and I lost it when I watched it. It was because of Ellie dying (and having a miscarriage) and how she didn't get to fufill her dream. Everything before that was happy and great. Also the fact they knew each other since childhood. I have this great friend who's a girl and we both met when we were 11 back in 2000. She's just a friend though. When I first met her I had a crush on her, lolz. I didn't tell her about it until 2 years ago. haha. She was really flattered though and I understand she wants to be friends. The montage sort of makes me think of our friendship.

Also I admit it I love balloons. I have since I was 3. I have Aspergers and balloons are my main obsession but there are some non Aspie people who have things for balloons too.

So did any "tough" guys try to hold back tears during the montage?

Pixar really knows how to tug on the heartstrings. Remember Toy Story 2 "When she loved me?" Didn't make me cry but it really is a sad song.

Saw 'Up' in the theater with my 2 eldest kids. I'm a pretty tough 48 year old, but the first part completely blew me away. Guess I've seen thousands of films in the past 40 years, hundreds in theaters, but very few managed to affect me as much as 'Up' did. It is not unlike 'About Schmidt' by the way. That movie hits really hard too, when you realize you only have a rather limited time left..

Some men would die rather than have their wife see them cry. I know that I try very hard not to let my wife know or see me cry when watching movies or TV. So you shouldn't think that if you don't see them crying they aren't affected. I also notice that I didn't cry as much when I was younger and was better at holding back the tears, but the tears came more readily and freely after 40.
Up is a very enjoyable movie and I watched it a couple times more after first seeing it. I usually don't do that.

A couple of my coworkers recommended this movie to me. I had heard about it when it first came out. It was supposed to be REALLY good.

When it first started i said to myself, "What is this crap? Is it a children's movie?!?"

...But as soon as the flashbulb went off and they got married i started to like it.

When Ellie couldn't get preggo the tone of the movie changed a lot, obviously. And when she was in the hospital bed it just killed me. The music was perfect. I cried like a baby.

....In fact, i haven't cried this much in about 20 *beep* years. I'm crying now as i type this. I'm not kidding!!! AND i'm on antidepressants! lol!!! I guess it's good to get out. I watched the part from when they first got married (flashbulb going off) until he wakes up alone in his bed (before he goes outside to watch the construction workers) 3 times now. I cried every time. It just touched me. I like it when watching a movie can make me feel something this intense.

I guess for those of us who are middle-aged, this is what love is supposed to be like.

Ellie not being able to get pregnant put some soul into this movie, gave it something extra. It gave it some realism.

I guess for those of us who still haven't met that special someone this part of the movie may have very well meant something special to us, something we are all longing for (sighs).

P.S. Liked it a lot. Grade: A-.

My husband saw this movie once and refuses to watch it again. He swears it's his least favorite movie ever. I always like to remind him, "Don't worry, honey, you're going to die first." Don't know if that's helping!

I'm a 25 year old dude, not very manly but not effeminate either. A few days ago i played this movie to my 4 year old niece. I didn't watch it probably since 2010 and i forgot how sad it was, and when the montage started I remembered how it would end and i just started tearing up a lot. My niece noticed it and was asking if i was crying? I said my eyes were tearing up 'cause of the warm air coming out of the heater :P today i started watching it again and I shed some tears again. i don't think i can go through the montage without tearing up anytime soon.

Anyways, i don't think my niece got exactly what was going on in the movie xD

I'm a 21 yr old guy and I WOULD have cried toward the end when he's flipping through the album if I was watching it alone( was with friends). Not ashamed, manly tears

I found it sad but not quite to the point of tears. Many Pixar films have a way of tugging at your emotions and they have become quite adapt at it. The only time I shed tears for this movie was of happiness when I watched the movie after it came out and was grateful I didnt actually spend any money to watch this tripe.
