To any guys on this board: did you cry?

I'm just asking. I think the music during the montage and then the end could make even the most macho man cry. I'm a guy who's turning 21 very shortly and I lost it when I watched it. It was because of Ellie dying (and having a miscarriage) and how she didn't get to fufill her dream. Everything before that was happy and great. Also the fact they knew each other since childhood. I have this great friend who's a girl and we both met when we were 11 back in 2000. She's just a friend though. When I first met her I had a crush on her, lolz. I didn't tell her about it until 2 years ago. haha. She was really flattered though and I understand she wants to be friends. The montage sort of makes me think of our friendship.

Also I admit it I love balloons. I have since I was 3. I have Aspergers and balloons are my main obsession but there are some non Aspie people who have things for balloons too.

So did any "tough" guys try to hold back tears during the montage?

Pixar really knows how to tug on the heartstrings. Remember Toy Story 2 "When she loved me?" Didn't make me cry but it really is a sad song.

Oh yes. I don't recall crying the first viewing at the drive-in, just overwhelmed with how fast and impermanent life is.

But the second time I bawled my eyes out in that sequence. And what Carl goes through to keep that love alive...reminded me of my girlfriend and I.

Pixar never really fails (though I have yet to see The Incredibles and Ratatouille).

I'm 30 years and i can admit i cried during the opening montage of "Up". In those 10 mins, i saw more human emotion and great storytelling in that montage alone than any live action movie ever. The score playing during the montage added to the emotional rollercoaster everyone felt. It made me realize that one day if i get married that my wife and i will be put in the same situation. Having big dreams of the future but realizing not everything can be accomplished and an untimely death can come at any time. As a result, leaving one of the mates alone. It's powerful scene. i think the last movie scene i cried during was the movie "Whale Rider". The little girl's speech in that movie always gets to me too.

Heck, yeah. I'm 36 years old and have cried all three times I've seen this movie - both at the opening montage and when Carl finally sees Ellie's "Stuff I'm Going to Do."

This movie definitely pulls at the heartstrings! I didn't cry outright when I watched it, but I did find myself choking back tears at a few points. I'm 30 years old...as a child growing up, crying for "trivial" reasons wasn't really an accepted thing in my house. As awesome as my Dad was (and still is), he's always been one of those "dry yer eyes...why you gettin' so excited?" kinda guys. I remember when he kinda teased me for crying at the end of Scrooged, lol. He lost his Dad when he was 13, so I guess that might have something to do with it. He seems to have mellowed out as he's gotten older, though.

Anyway...so yeah, I find it hard to let myself actually cry during movies. =) My wife always tells me I shouldn't conceal my emotions, but it's just how I was raised.

Great movie, though...about to watch it on Blu Ray!

Many times.

I don't think any film has made me cry more than once before, and a lot of the ones that are meant to didn't manage it at all.

My husband didn't cry.

Another poster wrote, "I didnt cry at all. At first I thought he was dreaming when they showed him and his wife getting married and living life, then i saw them at the dr's office and immediately knew it wasnt a dream. Felt a little sad, but was just more curious what was gonna happen next "

I was the same way it went a little fast for me and it was like I missed it, but I did cry when she died.

Also cried when if found what Elle wrote.

I also cried when Russell said something to the effect of he had to get the badge because then his dad would come to awards ceremony, but I know most people wouldn't. That is based on my perfectionist upbringing I was crying thinking, "I know Russell it is so hard some times it is so hard when you have to perform to be loved!"

Yeah, I'm a pretty tough dude raised on keeping emotions inside and I gotta say that by the end of that montage I was on the verge of tears by the fact that Ellie and Carl went through all those years and never fulfilled their dream of going to Paradise Falls. Kinda reminds you of yourself not trying to pursue your own dreams.
