The statistics show that a large part of the older population in former socialist republics really dislike capitalism.
I have lived in Soviet Union. My country is an eastern european country that was occupied by the soviets for 50 years.
Unfortunately many people have a youth bias. They were young, healthy and strong so they remmeber that time more fondly than when they are now old and sickly. The life, even for those on the poverty line are objectively better now as little as 30 years after the occupation ended.
The movie is portraying illegal immigrants as the heroes and patriots as bad guys. This is promoting a pro-immigration message if anything.

The legal process isn't open to everyone. Then you have the American side where Americans and American companies willingly hire people and pay them under the table. That's illegal whether hiring a US Citizen or an illegal alien. The lure of making money because Americans are willing to pay you for work is more attractive to an illegal than their fear of breaking any laws that upset people who whine about illegal immigration but still buy products and services from Americans and American companies that enable illegal immigration in the first place.
