What sort of movie should this have been?

IMHO the movie is a failure, because it's not about the exciting adventures of a Space Ranger in space, it's about being marooned, and being unhappy and frustrated with repeated failure. SO not exciting! NOT the sort of things that would make kids want to play at being Buzz Lightyear!

IMHO they should have made a proper Space Opera, something like the old "Lensman" books, where a super agent is sent to various planets to spy, to solve problems, to take out bad guys and deal with super-aliens! And there's no psychodrama involved with the villains, they're just plain old evil!
That's the kind of adventure little kids want to see, and which we DO see in the Lightyear game at the beginning of "TS2", not some marooned guy repeatedly failing to make it into space.

absolutely right

Yeah. When I first saw him land on a new planet, I was hoping they didn’t go with the marooned plot. But there it was.

Apparently, they are stuck there, forever. Yet Buzz becomes a Space Ranger again? It didn’t make much sense.

He became horny and lonely then felt betrayed as she went for lesbo action instead of what 'god' intended and wanted to set things right only to finally in the end accept he won't get back to momma Hawthorne and settled in for the daughter instead. ;)

That was a granddaughter, and I don't think she was of legal age.

reply

Oh, my bad. As for the legal age, he's traveled like 50 years into the future no? I think she's just legal enough given how she can handle herself.

reply

Whether she's of legal age or not, and I would guess not, she's the commander's daughter and about 150 years his junior.

Lightyear is brave, but is he THAT brave?

reply

Not made.

I remember seeing his spaceship as being one of the main toys being in the shops, available in different sizes, so I thought he did a lot of flying around in space in in this film in general, had some battles, etc. Not some experimental light speed stuff which young kids won't understand.

I didn't read anything before going into it, and so thought it was an origin story of how Buzz met the other toys. But the explanatory thing at the start completely changed that assumption.

Oh well, was still enjoyable though. We loved the robot cat.
