Dave: worst voice EVER

What on earth was the casting director thinking?
I have never heard such a whiny nasally voice in my entire life, it was dreadful and reduced the movie to an annoying farce.
And why is that while the other ancient sorcerers have British accents Balthazar doesn't even though he was from Britain?

Utter utter nonsense, I am surprised at Disney, really surprised.

Dean: Hey don't sugar coat it Sam"

I agree with Dave's voice being annoying. I kept thinking that they cast the wrong person. In all honesty, the way he spoke and rambled on, it seemed like he was trying to do a Shia LeBouf impression. This movie might have been tons better if he were the one starring in it (not a fangirl, promise!)

As far as the British accents go, the other ancient sorcerers were trapped and therefore could hold on to the accents. Balthazar spent hundreds of years in America looking for the Prime Merlinian, and it's quite common for a person to pick up an accent after several years. The more you hear it, the more it becomes natural to you. Of course, I'm not sure if this is what the writer's had in mind, but it fits.

Horvath wasn't captured until 1929, but we're not told where that happened. If Balthazar was in the U.S. since 1898 or so (when he opened the Arcana Cabana), he would have caught Horvath in America. We're also not told when Horvath came to the U.S.

It was kind of the whole plot...: a nerdy guy like that be a sorcerer and get a hot girl? the comedy kept it interesting

Dave's voice was a little unusual at first, but I got used to it during the movie. I think it emphasised his "dorkiness" or whatever it should be called. It fitted into the role. I guess he must be doing something right, he's been in a bunch of other movies than this one. I liked him as Dave.

Also, I guess Balthazar would eventually pick up an American accent after living in the U.S. for a while. I'm not quite sure whether an English accent sticks around for 1200 years, regardless of where you live.

Balthazar had been America a long time - he probably bought his old car brand new. So he could easily have acquired a New York accent. But Dave's voice is just annoying.

Totally agree the film was going to be good if Dave had stayed 9 yrs old, that kid was good. Very disappointed when they then went 10 years later.

I don't care for Jay Baruchel or his voice much so yeah, have to agree that it detracted from the film (at least for myself). I really enjoyed Nic Cage and have to wonder if I would have liked this film more if someone else had played the role of Dave...?

We're not playing Yellow Car.--Martin
You're always playing Yellow Car.--Arthur
