Dave: worst voice EVER

What on earth was the casting director thinking?
I have never heard such a whiny nasally voice in my entire life, it was dreadful and reduced the movie to an annoying farce.
And why is that while the other ancient sorcerers have British accents Balthazar doesn't even though he was from Britain?

Utter utter nonsense, I am surprised at Disney, really surprised.

Dean: Hey don't sugar coat it Sam"

reply

I totally agree! I thought he was doing a Jerry Lewis type voice or something! Horrible and nasally and whiny!

I want to stab out my ears with pencils whenever I hear him speak!!

The movies was good escapism. But, every time he spoke I said to my friend "he has the most annoying voice ever." At one point in time, I just wanted to stop watching pfft.

reply

Sheesh, if you actually did that every time Dave spoke, then, if I were your friend, I'd be pretty annoyed with you. There's nothing worse, even than a movie itself, than when someone decides to talk in a movie, and they do so repeatedly.

reply

Yes he could help it!
All he needs is a voice coach...

The fault, dear Brutus, lies not in our stars but within ourselves.

reply

You're one of those people that throws slurs only at thous who can't defined themselves. And I bet you have no problem with all the Imerials in Star Wars having British accents even thou there is no Britten in SWU and they all can't possibly come from the same area.

reply

Say what?
Whats a SWU?
I can hardly understand your writing.

Star Wars Universe?

reply

That guy never makes any sense

terrible. the voice and jerky mannerisms were like a blend between Jerry Lewis and Woody Allen.

Maybe he can't help it and really sounds like that but it does not mean that I have to cut him some slack. If he was some random guy, I would not care but a guy with the most annoying voice and absolutely zero charisma or screen presence should not be a lead in a movie, which is the point brought up by the OP. I agree with him 100% and think that this is simply atrocious casting.

This "actor" has absolutely no redeeming qualities that justify him being included in any movie for an extended amount of time. There is a whole new generation of actors doing this "thing" where it seems like the script calls for a blank spot instead of a character and this guy is among the worst of them. This is the second movie that was completely ruined for me by him douche and I don't see a good reason why it had to be that way.

reply

I actually thought his voice was perfect for him. He was supposed to be a nerd who was very unsure of himself, so the voice worked for me.

reply

Oh come on, he did good as the voice from How to Train Your Dragon!

The stronger he became as a sorcerer, the more he sounded like Christian Slater. I think the moral of the story is clear. Christian Slater IS the prime Merlinian.
