I think the stuff is made from chick peas and it really is awesome, I've been eating it since I was a little kid and I'm not muzzi/jew or whatever, just an auzzie.
It's a very tasty diarrhea-like substance.

If you want to try hummus, get it from a greek or middle eastern resteraunt. If they don't already, put some olive oil in it and I personally like a light squeeze of fresh lemon. Throw some pita bread in a toaster oven until it's extremely crisp and enjoy.
