Similar films (protagonist who slowly loses it)?

Does anyone have any other films they can think of that are in the same vein, taking the same formula (a protagonist starts of doing somewhat well, then degrades over the course of the film, and has a breakdown of sorts at the end)?

I have 2011's "Shame," but that's the only one I can really think of. Any input is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

A lot of Hitchcock movies are in the same vein. A little more..err..dark humorish maybe? But there are a lot of characters that seem to be losing their minds in his films.

Perhaps "A Beautiful Mind" (2001) with Russell Crowe has some similarities, although I guess that it's not as "dark" as Black Swan (perhaps more like a Grey Swan :-) )

(I must admit that I loved "A Beautiful Mind", I think that it's Russell Crowe's best role, whereas I didn't like Black Swan so much.)

Read the short story "The Yellow Wallpaper" by Gilman...it's really really good, I don't know why we don't have a movie of that yet

I would like to know if there are any other films where the protagonist is an artist (dancer, painter, musician, actor, etc.) that loose their selves in their craft. Exactly how Natalie Portman's character did in this film.

....^^ there was the film Magic with Anthony Hopkins - that was a steal from the concluding chapter of a 1940's british horror film Dead of Night...
