That is preposterous considering how rare it is for a movie to reach 7.9 on imdb. It's a ridiculously high rating for such a dumb, generic, self-serious movie that is watchable but not very good. Seriously, how did this happen? Did Taken fans use social media to spam the site with perfect ratings?
shareJudging by the rating people, like me, simply found this movie incredibly fun and brutal. I loved how focused and unreal the lead character was in his efficiency and brutally. Its what most people imagine being like when a loved one is hurt or wronged. Admit it, we all have had these Rambo fantasies at least once in our lives and this movie delivered on that in a more real world setting. A high rating doesn't have to mean a Oscar winner.

Have you seen the movies here with ratings above 8 and 9? compared to most of them this is a masterpiece. This movie doesn't want to outsmart you or test your intelligence. It's a good old revenge action thriller that doesn't drag and gets audience at any level involved due to the subject it handles. If it was a ransom movie, it would be a disaster, probably!

Barely a single scene in the film seemed even remotely believable to me, more like laughable. Not all people look for the same things in films though. If you liked it, great, good for you. Neither view is right or wrong, just a difference in view. Some cheesy films work for me too, for some reason or another. We all find different ways to relate to different things. If we were all the same and all loved and hated the same exact things, it would likely make for a very boring world.

I totally agree, this movie is not more than a 4.5-5. 7.9 is overrated. Really simplistic story, totally unrealistic how he evade all French police, while doing this kills 40 Albanian and non descript Arabs and than peacefully travels home with his miraculously upbeat daughter.
If at least all that would be brilliantly designed and played... Like for example in "Leon". I trusted the rating and feel almost I have wasted some valuable time...

I gave Taken a 9/10, and the reason for this is because it's a love letter to action movie fans like myself. There's no real romance, little-to-no CGI, brutal violence (in the unedited version, at least), no unwanted comic relief characters, excellently choreographed action scenes, a fast pace, a focused plot that entertains even when people aren't being killed, and a real macho tough guy as the lead. If you're not a fan of the genre (which is okay) Taken may not appeal to you. However, if action movies are your thing, this flick is a wonderful ride.
