You overintellectualize. If one relaxes into this movie, it does reach those of us who may have children, who work with teens, and/or are human. Stop the overthink and open your heart: the story could happen to your friend, family, and/or a loved one. It's brutal & suspenseful & Neeson is believable as the ex-CIA very present, very focused efficient Dad.
This isn't a masterpiece of artistry, nor does it pretend to be. You're watching the wrong movie if that's what you expect. It is, however, a well-paced, suspenseful thriller with acceptable performances, script, and authentic-seeming fight sequences, Paris street scenes, and a contemporary theme. It entertains & that's good enough for me.
