Why is it higher rated than 2001 when it borrows so much from it?

The fact that when it borrows so much from 2001 but is higeher rated is just stupid in my opinion, I know that it was much easier to understand and that 2001 isn't for everyone and I know that it was probably just paying homage to 2001: a space odyssey but it is just a bit much with the the same long openening without words and the villian basically being exactly the same as HAl. But I just think that imdb voters seem to have a preference towards pixar movies over other movies. I know they are quite enjoyable but they are not amazing movies with the odd exception. This is also the worst pixar movie I have seen in my opinion so I do not understand the rave reviews it gets.

No time for the old in-out, love. I've just come to read the meter!

I literally find it sad how many people find Wall-E better than a masterpiece like 2001.

2001 is quite possibly the best sci-fi film ever made, Wall-E is just a minor Pixar piece. If you don't have patience to watch 2001 then that's your problem.

There will be an answer, Let it Be

2001 is overrated and only enjoyable if stoned.

Its that man again!!

The problem with WALL E is that is more focus for the Obama supporter liberal idiot of this day and age. It's a long eco friendly propaganda ad disguise as a cartoon. So the masses will choose WALL E.

2001 is a more complex and visual film that requires you to think. It doesn't infect your mind by telling you that you need to save the planet. Quite the opposite, it is prophetic because it makes you want to LEAVE this planet.

Are both Wall E and 2001 entertaining and interesting to watch? The answer is yes. But are they on the same level? Heck no!

But then again, this film is aim for today's generation of Justin Bieber and Kim Kardashian and Jersey Shore so to them Wall E is the superior film.

I'm an old dog and glad not to be a part of this idiotic generation of Welfare gay loving marijuana addict pseudo-intellectuals.

And thankfully as an "old dog", you'll die soon. Bye.

It's because Wall-E appeals to a much wider audience. I myself am a huge Kubrick fan and love 2001, but Wall-e is not a bad film either. 2001 is a much better film and much more influential, but not everybody can watch it. Not everybody can enjoy a beautiful piece of art. Not everyone can understand it either. The first few scenes in Wall-E were excellent the rest of the movie was good but not amazing. Not everyone on IMDB is a critic or a film junkie.

there is nothing to tie a great kids movie with some boring old Kubrick movie & with eyes wide crap err shut he should of died sooner

maybe it's higher rated because it's better? Just a thought!

Also it's much more accessible and easy to find. Who, outside of some film classes, has actually seen 2001? It's not exactly easy to watch. And difficult to find. Not even the classics section in the DVD-store have it. It's one of those films "film intellectuals" appreciate but the masses avoid it.

2001 is really easy to find, i see it in stores constantly, and you can buy it everywhere online, i am included in ''those masses'' btw, and i've seen 2001 probably 9 times, my 2nd favorite film of all time. I find new things along the way everytime i see it
