Worst. Movie. Ever.

I was never very interested in seeing it, I'm generally not at all interested in modern sequels/prequels to decades-old classics from my youth. And I remember when it was in theaters, right out of the gate it was panned. Recently I heard things like "It's actually not bad," "It's almost as good as the 1982 movie," so I decided to check it out.

It wasn't horrible, but it was completely uninspired and mediocre. Everything from the cinematography to the set design to the performances was pure meh. I especially hated the whole "Oh hey guess what, there were a bunch of Americans working with the Norwegians" conceit. The one guy being the only one who didn't speak English so that he could be the one to survive to the end and be the guy shooting at the dog when they arrive at Mac's base, that was one of the most painfully contrived hackjobs I've ever seen in my entire life. Every line of dialogue from every character should have been subtitled Norwegian.

People like OP are the sort to hate a film because it's going to be compared to a favorite of theirs. They react aggressively against it in an attempt to protect their favorites legacy and reputation.

Telling everyone this film is the worst film ever isn't going to make it true.

Reminds me of people who swear off watching any remakes as it's an 'insult to the original'. Yet often some of their favorite films will be remakes/rip-offs of others.

Anyone who hates The Thing (2011) because it's a prequel/remake of The Thing (1982) should hate JC's film and worship the Hawks/Nyby film instead as it's the true original. If that's what you value in life. Worshipping originals over sequels, prequels and remakes.
