Did the ending piss you off?

I actually got so angry. I get that "not every movie can have a happy ending bla bla bla" but that was just unbelievably unnecessary and dumb. The fact that it wasn't a happy ending isn't what annoyed me. What annoyed me was dumb decision making. That's just not what he would do in that situation. Just off everyone THAT quickly? It goes against human nature. And then the military rolls in and we're left thinking "YOU IDIOT OMFG!"

Yes.

I liked it.

In the book, they just drive off and you never find out what happens to them. The bleak ending of the movie made sense.

Interesting.. both those endings kinda suck

Absolutely not. It was a very powerful ending. It blew me away (no pun intended) the first time I saw it. I think it's a great ending.

reply

It didn't piss me off because it was a bold ending that took some balls. However it's not a valid representation of how people handle futility. We tend to go on until we starve before we off ourselves.

That's what I'm sayin!

Nope. I think it was a really good ending ...

I regard it as a - surely unintentional - satire about Christians. Who are Christians? That kind of jews who cannot stand to wait any longer for the real messiah. So OF COURSE it must have been this Jesus figure... A catastrophe happens? OF COURSE this must be apocalypse, because they cannot stand to wait any longer for the real thing.
Believing in God is a lot about patience, which Christians don't have at all.

There’s a part of my movie watching brain that loves this shocking ending, but there’s also a realistic sense of my soul that says “I’d never do that”. Like, I’d never willingly kill my son until the absolute last moment/second that the situation was absolutely unavoidable - In a realistic likelihood, we’d die together.

As a movie fan, I kinda dig the ballsy ending, especially when so few mainstream movies at the time wanted to go in that direction….but it’s also not a logical direction I would have gone in if I were writing it.

If I dig this movie, it has a lot more to do with what happens before the ending. The ending definitely gets a stark reaction, but I liked it a lot before we got to that point.

To me, the whole film was second-rate. Barely enough for me to keep watching, just to see how it ended. I already knew the ending was controversial, so I figured I see it through.

For me, the ending was disappointing emotionally and logically, but the whole movie struck me that way, with people doing dumb things just to keep the plot moving, changing character in two seconds, etc.

So, for me, a poor ending, but consistent with the rest of the film.
