Avengers is why they invented the term INSTANT CLASSIC

It's so good to see Marvel's The Avengers and the term INSTANT CLASSIC is forever linked when describing this amazing movie.

I don't remember the last film that instantly registered this much this fast and stayed this talked about even over a year later. The other top box office champs did the slow burn and grew on people. It's well noted that Avatar was simply a gimmick FX film that everyone had to see but most agree it's a bad film and was terribly written.

Reading these boards over the past year, I see a lot of comparisons to Star Wars and Raiders of the Lost Ark and that seems to be right on the mark looking back. Most everyone loves Avengers no matter age or gender. That's also a very tough thing to pull off considering the genre and subject matter.

Admit it everyone, Avengers is an outstanding film on every level and truly worthy to be called an instant classic.

Avengers was a TRUE genuine motion picture event. There are so many characters, moving parts and expectations involved in The Avengers that the usual, succinct review system no longer applies. Everyone loved it for a reason. Those that pretend they don't are still the haters from other franchises that got hurt bad by Avengers. We need to look at and judge each aspect of the film in detail to explain why the film works as well as it works and, again, what made this the first genuine motion picture event that EVERYONE loved.

Maybe Days of Future Past or the next Star Wars can match it but I think Avengers Age of Ultron will be the next time we can say this again.

We really owe everything to the Marvel founding fathers and their devotion and drive which led to the opportunities that they never were able to have predicted would be this great.

Avatar is a crap film with a script written by what must have been a ten year old.

reply

I wonder if the sequels will get the backlash they deserve?

Tell me again why Marvel films seem to always run at the billion dollar mark now.

Unheard of means it's only undreamed of yet; Impossible means it's just not yet done.

It is still better than this tripe.

Hypocrites, ASSEMBLE

Agreed. The Avengers is one of the few films to come along lately with rewatchability.. all of phase 1 is, but Avengers by far is the gem in that crown.

Thanks to Batman vs. Superman, the "S" on Supermeh's chest now stands for Sidekick

Now THAT is a classic comment.

This same thread can be started on the Age of Ultron page.

The debate over which is better between Avengers and AoU is raging and strong over there.

Avengers is now clearly the best first two films any film franchise has produced since Godfather II.

Being a perfect 12 for 12 does that to a studio. All great films has us spoiled to a degree.

I accept your surrender.

YOu must be kidding.

No, honestly, there is no way an actual grown-up could actually say what you did, and be serious.

I mean, heck, Star wars itself was nothing to be proud of, but THIS - no, just no, in every universe, and form of living.

Ehhh why is Stars Wars nothing to be proud of?

When we have Marvel in our hearts and minds, we draw Marvelous things into our lives.

You claim it's a classic after 2 years of release. Then you claim that Avatar was simply a gimmick. Ok, well, let's see how many times The Avengers is brought up in 10 years without mentioning box office. As for Avatar, where is it well noted that people hated it? It's got a good score on IMDB, Rottentotamoes, and Metacritic.

I'm not saying that these are the bible in terms of a movies quality but I also would't say, like you did so randomly without anything to back it up with, that everyone loved Avatar (like you are saying about Avengers).

If you do want to bring to box office into consideration, you are aware that even though The Avengers made the most all time on opening weekend it says a lot in terms of what people wanted to pay for repeat viewing that it made well over $1 billion more than the Avengers ... if you think Avatar won't be thought of as a classic as well then you must remove your rose coloured Avengers glasses.
