The music killed it!

I actually enjoyed the movie, but every time they started singing and all that comes out of their mouths is some mechanical sound, I can't help but to cringe. Yeah yeah, today's music has tonnes of autotune as well, which makes me sick but really? They made it so obvious to the point it was obnoxious. Call me boring but if that's the idea of modernism and fun... well just leave me out of it.

reply

I agree, the music was very bad.
They should have done something simple, like generic rock music or classic pop would have been way better...

I loved the movie but the music... pff

reply

Yeah, I'm getting to old to enjoy todays music, especially in a movie meant for children.

Sorry for the horrible english. I'm Swedish.

Being a Swede is no excuse for terrible English. Mental faculties (or lack thereof) aren't restricted to nationality.

So how good is your Swedish?

reply

What a load of crap. Not everyone has time to the chance to practice their English. Not to mention that we don't have to cater to English-speaking people all the time. Let them learn a different language for once.

being terrible at a terrible language is not so terrible

english sucks but not as much as grammar nazis.

Lol. Wow you really hate grammar nazis. Can't blame you though, they are so annoying.

What there's no excuse for, is being a jerk.

Did it even cross your mind that quote is just a signature, and might be a quote from a book, or film, or something else?

But anyway, you seem quite the jerk.

reply

Erm, what? I didn't liketo hear autotune in this as well, but, as you said, this movie is for CHILDREN and that's the music of their generation. Just remember what you thought when you were a child and the adults ranted about your music ...

reply

I think they wanted to contrast "things that today's teens/tweens like" with this typical gloomy vampire atmosphere. The problem is they didn't know or couldn't decide what style should really represent the young people's taste, so the selection of "hits" was inconsistent if not lame and the background music was nothing special either.

Your English is better than many Americans; a tribute to your educational system and an indictment to ours.

reply

I know right? It was horrible. The movie itself was enjoyable, though.

reply

They really dropped the ball with that one. Not only was it terrible, it didn't fit the theme at all (except it was monsterous).
I expected to see zombie Mozart and Beethoven utilized in some musical manner. That could have been funny and good- better than this sht.

reply

Yeah it was rather lame. I would have liked something original that went with the Monster theme.

reply

Yeah, I gotta agree. The songs in general were really bad, but that ending tune really took the cake. It was boring and cliche and added nothing. Movie wasn't bad in general, I rather enjoyed it, but man the music was terrible!

Auto tuned Adam Sandler singing with a Romanian accent? Pass...

I agree with the awful autotune songs, but the score was great. This is a sony picture so they probably forced the songs on the movie. Its so weird with the autotune trend, artists who actually CAN sing use auto tune as some kind of effect.

reply

I don't know. Sure the music is not my style, and it's definitely something new to cartoon/animated movies, but if I approach it with an open mind then I can actually see that it's pretty decent.

Just coz the music isn't my taste (let's face it, this music is just not what most of us grew up with) that doesn't mean it's bad and that doesn't mean that the kids don't enjoy it.

I have to give props to this movie for trying out a different music style as compared to the standard disney sing-song.

reply

I'm starting to think that this may be an age sensitive topic. I am 25 yrs old and to be honest, I can see where the music fit in the movie. An important theme in the story was how the father was old fashioned. This was of course countered by implementing today's music as contrast. Whether or not you like the actual music is all a matter of opinion, however, I personally believe that it did fit pretty well with the storyline. Also, in my opinion, the music wasn't bad. This is coming from someone who grew up on 60's - 80's rock.

reply

Yah, actually I thought the music was great. It fits with the theme perfectly. I mean you don't have to like it and the easy going lifestyle that is portrayed in the movie. If you can appreciate that such a lifestyle/music is also there and let young people decide for themselves, I think that is like the whole point of the movie. In that sense, the music fits perfectly, for me at least...

remember Lion King?
Beauty and the Beast?

remember Little Mermaid? Mulan?

at what point did any of these characters starting rapping or singing like the famous artist at the time?
at what point did the Lion King have a song from Madonna or a song by Vanilla Ice?

NEVER!
Because movies used to just be movies and have their own scores. I don't remember Toy Story having any rap or stupid crap music like that.

reply

It's mostly only the bigger movies who do that though. Lots of modern family movies don't use pop music at all, like Coraline, Fantastic mr. Fox, and The Secret of Kells.

Also, there's nothing wrong with rapping itself. Like with anything, there's good and bad. It's just that Adam Sandler's rapping seems to be part of the latter. :P

wow... they tried something different and are getting raked for it.

yet countless boards on imdb complain when the same old thing is done in movie after movie because hollywood has no originality.

i didn't like the end song with the dracula rap in it.... but not so much to blow a blood vessel.

Just saying, but Madonna and Vanilla Ice don't match at all with the 90's movie Lion King. Lion King is 1994, Madonna and Vanilla Ice era was 1980s...

reply

i don't listen to crappy music so i do not know what artist was famous in 1994

but I'll humor you.

It would be like the Lion King ending with a music number by NAS or Snoop dog...

reply

Do you have any idea who was singing in that movie? Let me break it down for you.
Adam Sandler, Cee Lo Green, Selena Gomez, and Andy Samberg. All four of them sing in real life too. I'm sure they did the mechanical thing to make them sound more Monster I guess? Either way, they didn't do it to "tune" Adam Sandlers voice in the aspect that he is already a good singer. I thought the singing fit well with the movie personally.
