were did ugly betty go wrong

it was so popular and then the ratings went down

Season 1 was perfect!Season 2 became annoying as the writers spent the entire season on the silly Betty-Henry-Gio love triangle.Season 3 had some of the best and the worst episodes I have ever seen.Season 4 was good but the show had lost at lot of its viewers so it was only a matter of time it got axed.

reply

For me, I liked ALL of the first three seasons! I LOVED seasons 1,2, and 3! Season 4 was HORRIBLE to me.

If it ever went wrong I think it was in the beginning of season 4. The characters got OBVIOUS and too trustworthy of their enemies and was letting their enemies walk all over them. The "bad guys" got everything they wanted too easily.

And Daniel's character made it WAY too obvious of his feelings of Betty way too early on, instead of using "subtext" or whatever they call it to just hint to us.

reply

I think Season 2 got out of control. It lacked a focus. It kept throwing landmines to stop Henry and Betty from getting together and those landmines were just stupid.

I think that was part of it. I want to however go on record as stating "I LOVED THIS SHOW". "I LOVED BETTY'S FAMILY". I loved how they were there for one another. I also loved Marc and Amanda. They were a great comedic team!

For me, I lost interest once Wilhelmina hooked up with Bradford. And then when that whole baby fiasco started, the show was pretty much dead in my eyes. However, if there was one point that I felt truely marked the end of Ugly Betty as we knew it, it was Christina's departure.

reply

THIS. Seriously, losing Christina just killed this show because she was the person who was always encouraging Betty to take steps forward or to do things she normally wouldn't, and she was also the only person who was really outside of all of Betty's drama and could sort of be the voice of reason.

In the first three seasons, the characters and stories came off over-the-top and cartoonish on purpose, but after Christina (and even Alexis, sort of) left everything just came off like it was taking itself seriously while still playing out these contrived, cartoonish plots. That's really what killed it.

Perhaps it had something to do with this little nerd girl campaigning for Hillary and Obama, as if somebody actually cared what a Hollywood 'star' thought.

Hopefully her Hillary-stumping led to her downfall and she ends up in porn while shes campaigning for Obama.

The show sucked because it was impossible to look at this ugly nerd girl and pretend that she was anything but an ugly, nerd girl. She should be throwing oranges at you on some street in L.A. or trying to wash your window when you come to a stop.

Awww. Did I hurt the little nerd girls feelings?

Get sexually assaulted at an OWS meeting and they 'handled it internally'? I read about you in the news I think.

Hey,ever find out what kind of dog that was that Obama ate? Might have overlooked it when you were ragging that other pathetic slob that had the dog on his roof.

Im sure youre snickering at this whole 'we didnt know our embassy was in danger, its that film-makers fault!' fiasco too. Maybe you missed that story while you were out boycotting 'evil capitalism' in your Nike's and Abercrombie's.

I dont blame ya though.
I hate republicans too.

They are simply democrat-lite and that means in their hearts they have no principles. Why vote for second best when you can have the real thing?!

Naw. If they got their act together and called out the enemies of America-the liberal establishment-people would cling to them like flies to dung, but no..they cower whenever some loser nerd with a nose ring calls them a name.

Its time to stop pretending, 'I might disagree with you but...'. We both know that is a lie. Your putrid side is the enemy to people like me.

Be sure and champion the 'hatred is not a family value' dogma as you spew your hatred and bile. Typical of your kind.

I would say season 2.There was very little growth in her character. Also,I hate love triangles and both Henry and Gio were undeserving of Betty.

reply

I think for the general public Ugly Betty was more of a quickly passing trend because it received a massive amount of press when it launched.

However I strongly, STRONGLY disagree with anyone who says this show is a one-season wonder, because seasons 2-4 are just as good as season 1. In fact season one is not even my favorite season.

Been rewatching the series on Streampix (Comcast service) and I'm currently on episode five of season four and the show is still as funny and entertaining as ever.

Because the show is veryrepetitive. There's two basic points to the show: tragedy and usurping. Those are really the catalysts that kept the show going, but for me, became very stale and disappointing.

reply

From my opinion, where I think they went wrong, is that they should have gotten Betty/Daniel started during midseason 3. I'm sorry, but I'm pretty positive people were watching this show for the Betty and Daniel interractions and for their romance to get started, and well, they started to get tired and bord that it simply wasn't happening, so they gave up and moved onto something else. I know I did. By the time they finally got around to developing their relationship to the next level, they were already too late. I just hope they make a movie where Betty and Daniel get married. I mean, if Firefly can get a movie after only one season, why can't UB after 4?

I miss August/Pinocchio:(

There was too big of a cast and too many sub-plots that were just stupid.
