HORRIFIC VOMIT

Being a HUGE WKW fan and having lived in Hong Kong and spent hours walking the streets to find scenes and shots from his films I was so excited to hear about a new film coming out.

I watched it.

I lied.

I actually only watched 22 minutes of it and thought I was going to throw up.

It was the biggest pile of *beep* I have ever seen. Forced. Awkward. Like a pathetic art school student trying to make a WKW film.

Jude Law was Horrific... as much passion as a mannekin, the less said about norah jones the better... I didn't even see up till natalie portmans character but she annoys the living tits off me so I dont regret it.

What a horrible mistake. He is the laughing stock of the movie industry at the moment.. the next one better be a corker.

I am stuck on Tsai Ming Liangs films at the moment.. "what time is it there"is a masterpiece.. check it out.

The metaphor for relationships being like pie was brilliant imo...
There were a lot of casually dropped quotes that ended up meaning more to met han anything I've ever heard. I've never had that from a movie, because I'm not typically sentimental, and I generally hate indie art films. I'm going go watch this movie, because I love it so much. I have to admit, if I was in the wrong mood; this move would probably seem terrible.

I wouldn't call it "horrific," but I found almost the entire movie unbelievable, from the opening shots that presented two very unlikely New Yorker types in an incredibly fake New York. There was little to create or sustain the disbelief necessary for Wong's artifice to work. This is the biggest misstep of his career; perhaps he should consider another film that employs some of these actors and actresses (Weisz, Portman, Law, Faison), who do have talent. As is, this amounts to 1 hr + of dreck.

I couldnt agree more! I managed 30 minutes before i switched it off.

Human drama is not for 12 year olds, I guess.

Or in the words of Family Guy "when stupid people want a thrill, they rent The Rocketeer".

You are right, mentally 12 year olds shouldn't direct human dramas.

The movie had some (as in, a few) decent moments. But it just never really got out of first gear.

I didn't realize this was the same gent from Chunking Express, which I remember liking quite a lot. But it makes sense.

Jude Law as the Blueberry man, and his interactions with Norah Jones to the sounds of Norah Jones, were superior in awkwardness. There's a romanticism that I may accept from a Chinese film that doesn't work with this western cast. Although, who was at fault for Jude and Norah's horrible chemistry? It was like the two were on opposite pharmaceuticals. Just thinking about the two sharing a room gives me the willies.

Speaking of cultural differences... my favorite part, without a doubt, is how he frames women's faces throughout the film. With the romantic Asian fog. There is one frame in particular that has Norah Jones posing for her senior yearbook photo for at least 20 seconds...

Hilarious film. I'm shocked that we watched the whole thing.

I like blueberries and nighty night time and I like Norah Jones... I flipped through the channel and this movie was on, and I was like OMG this is the greatest film ever.. Then I came on IMDB and it made me sad.. Sad because when you watch something just for yourself and you enjoy it, it's a great feeling and you want to share those feelings online but I guess IMDB is where miserable people come to ruin that mood for you, lol...

reply

Another option would be to simply come on and discuss what you liked about the film! Do you enjoy every movie you see? I'd hate to think you were a miserable person because you don't.

I was being sarcastic bro...

Sorry dude... with the nets you never know.

I watched this movie and had sex with my then-girlfriend. We thought it was cute.

As I was watching this I thought, "This is the kind of film that would be a hit at festivals, but die at the box office". I don't know about the festival part, but judging by the gross box office figures given here, it sure died in theaters.

I also watched it wondering why Norah Jones had so little charisma. I mean, she's pretty enough, and acted sort of kind of well enough. But there was no "there" there. It was like she was invisible. No screen presence at all.

The most creative part of this whole endeavor was the film's title. It was all downhill after that.
