I'm not a big watcher of horror films, but mate hontesly, this wasen't scary at all. I get freaked out easily and stuff, which is the reason why I usually avoice horrors but I stayed the night at a mates and thought I'd see but it didn't freak me out one bit. The only part that freaked me out was when that asian chick went on the bed and took her dress thing off to reveal all those scars and maggots and whatever the bloody hell it was on her body.

But I dunno, did it seem not scary to you guys?

Maybe becuase so many things in this film were cliche from japenese horrors, like the generic 'ghost girl with black hair looking, downwards and then looking up at you' that I didn't find it freaky, but I mean still.... I was like eh??

I just watched it, and had a hard time feeling an interest with this film.
Visually and aurally it seemed almost interesting.
Maybe I missed something, but I just never got into it -- so it never felt like a horror film…

Nope not horror, i cant really say but i watched the original before this
all that i know is that this is an extremely sad attempt of remaking a good horror movie...
Why did they do it???
I don't even know why I watched it. Oh yeah Thats right, to see how bad it was...

i feel the exact same way. it had no real scares at all! boring boring boring! the scenes that were supposedly "scary" were suppost to have a dread effect instead of a jump-out-of-your-seat effect but there was no affect! no suspense at all. the girl wasnt even scary. and io just had to laugh when the picture showed the girl on his shoulders lol if this film had a better feel, i would have passed that part as non-bogus but seriously? what the hell?

Grudge minus scares = Shutter

You found The Grudge scary? I damn near fell asleep watching that. When it wasn't boring me to tears, I was LMAO at the meowing ghost boy and the choking ghost that did nothing but go AHHHHHHHHHHHHH. I can't believe I spent $12 to see that garbage. The backstory of the ghosts and how they died and why the house was cursed was a far more interesting storyline than the movie itself. It would have made an excellent horror novel but it didn't translate well on-screen at all.

As for this movie, I didn't really find it scary either but I'd say it held my attention better than The Grudge. Or maybe it was just Joshua Jackson holding my attention, IDK. It started out too slow though. It was halfway through the movie before anybody died.

I solemnly swear that I am up to no good!

My friend and I found it really funny. It was supposed to be scary, but by the end we were trying really hard not to laugh out loud and disrupt the movie... So yeah, not too scary at all. Just unintentionally humorous!

I'm one of those people who is afraid of everything so this movie scared the crap out of me. i screamed and jumped throughout the whole movie. that doesn't mean that this was actually a good movie, it just scared me. the "spirit" freaked me out. i just watched this on DVD the other night and i took all the pictures down in my house before i went to bed.

Personally, I don't think this movie is scary at all. Well, i don't get scared that easily, but i usually get at least a little creeped out. The ending of this movie literally made me laugh. It was entertaining, but definitley not scary....or not for me anyways.

I was so bored that I started cleaning up around the house. Fortunately, I got it from the library so I didn't have to pay for it. I can't get my two hours back, though.

I was curious to see how it ended but that's it. Very mundane and not scary in the least.

What filmmakers need to realize is that what is scary is that which cannot be seen.

I saw the original version before this one, and I ended up watching most of it through my fingers.

It kept most of the same scare scenes, but it was just so lame in the remake that it wasn't scary. Maybe it would have been different had I seen this one first, but I doubt it. I saw the US Ring and Grudge before the Japanese versions, and think the original was better.

There are alot of 'scary' movies out there which use alot of visual effects to convey the thought, but this one effectively conveyed the scare factor in much more subtle and tasteful ways. Like a previous poster in this thread said about taking all the pictures down for the night after seeing this film, it's the kind of movie that leaves one to think about the possibilities. Much like Poltergeist, the Entity and Flatliners did.

Good, creepy, thought-provoking scares, it's the kind of movie that stays with, or 'haunts,' its viewer qhite awhile after seeing it.
