Does anyone know of any?

give the devils backbone a shot!

I didn't think the Devil's Backbone was nearly as good as the Orphanage, but I did enjoy it.

Of course you should see Pan's Labyrinth if you haven't already, and the other movie I've heard many people compare the Orphanage to is the Others. It's not similar at all in plot, but stylistically it's pretty similar. If you like the creepy, emotionally horrific more than the slasher, cheap scare horrific, then you should definitely watch the Others.

insidious is like a less classy version of the orphanage. equally scary but a little goofier

I thought Insidious was rubbish.Absolutely love this though :)

Agree with the poster .. Insiduous is waste .. this is a Gem !!!

Probably everyone has seen this by now, but "The Sixth Sense" is pretty darn good.

10/10 GOATED movie

The Changeling is one similar in feel and style.

This might be a stretch, but perhaps the original Korean "A Tale of Two Sisters" ("Janghwa, Hongryeon"), not the American remake. It's more psychological suspense than horror but also some horror elements.

reply

The Changeling? That's not even a horror movie or even close to The Orphanage.

I just watched Sinister...it was pretty creepy.

I'm pretty sure they meant "The Changeling" as in the old ghost movie from the 80s starring George C. Scott. Not the Angelina Jolie version. "The Changeling" is very good, and has one of the scariest scenes in any horror movie (in my opinion). You should check it out :)

You might try "The Others" with Nichole Kidman. It's also about children and family in a scary old house!

Another similarity is that they are both horror films but not slasher films. It also shares a kind of creepy atmosphere with this movie.

Damn, you bet me to it.Was just gonna say The Others too

The Forgotten - Julianne Moore
And a little bit, maybe Phantom Of The Opera (2004). The Phantom was treated like Tomas. But also a touching ending.

I second the Tale of Two Sisters, in general theme it is the exact same thing, a tragic tale with horror elements, only this one is a bit harder to understand it is not laid out in the open like in The Orphanage (how Simon died).
