Does anybody know why? I know he attempted a foolish stunt to impress a girl or something, surely losing this random girl after the failed stunt isn't his reason for being suicidal because that's a pretty weak reason to kill yourself.
Was it because he didn't want to live a life of a paralyzed victim?

I believe it was a combination of his girlfriend leaving him for the movie star along with being paralyzed by trying to win her back

Being often depressed myself and knowing suicidal people, also one who managed to kill herself it seemed that the film offered a frail explanation to why this character was suicidal. I knew a person that if you looked on his/her situation it seemed only like a "Boyfriend/girlfriend left that person and her/him was crushed into depression. It wasn't that simple and it never is that simple. The history of that person's difficult life went further back and the split-up with the "sweetheart" was just another confirmation that the person felt s/he had the whole life wrong.
I tried to imagine that Roy had a longer back story that just one girlfriend breaking-up. I thought the reason the film offered would be to weak if it weren't something deeper than that.
Don't tell me, it's no use to me. Tell yourself if you want to but don't tell me.
Being young and not be able to use half parts of his body (bcause of his own stupidy), esp in the 20's, plus guilt & regret, is the major culprit of his depression.
Of course it's not so appealing/too big to tell THAT to a kid, but just projecting his anger to "Odios" and the woman instead, into an "epic tale" to entertain the kid and himself, which makes the most part of the movie.
This is why some films need second chance (esp the ones using metaphor concept as main attraction), because some important details are often being overlooked at the first viewing (talking from my own experience).
No, not everyone who commits suicide has suffered through years of unbearable misfortune. Some people commit suicide for reasons which should have been insignificant. Such as the teenagers who killed themselves after being bullied on Facebook.
shareLosing the girl, losing your ability to move and thus losing your job and the chance to ever do it again...? Not sure why you are surprised it can push anyone to suicidal. Smaller things have done it to people. He felt the rugs were pulled from under him, simple as that. He lost everything that was meaningful in his life. If you couldnt feel his continuous frustration and anger over this, then I don't know what movie you watched.
shareI think he had some personality traits (emotional intensity) which made it very difficult for him to sit with negative emotions.
Having experienced depression myself I usually have empathy with people who are suicidal. However I really struggled with Roy incorporating a five year old child into his suicide plan, and taking an overdose in front of her (another reason why I think the was eupd element to his presentation). That was terrible and there was no justification for it.
As someone who's tried it - once that thought gets into your head, it doesn't leave, ever. Like an addiction, inception, even if it's not constant it's still there to be visited every so often.
shareI took it as Roy was a suicidal person to begin with. Or atleast self destructive. Hence why he was a stunt man, it was a lifestyle that suited his state of mind. When his girlfriend ran off the with film star that likely sealed his desire to end his life. When I was depressed I did some pretty reckless things I wouldn't normally do. But doing them gave me a thrill because there was little to no concern for the outcome.

I believe suddenly being paralyzed from the waist down would bring any young man into a deep depression for at least a little while.

He pretty much explains it when Alexandria asks him why Luigi killed himself... He couldn't live as "half a man"...
