Is Brenda the most annoying character on TV?
Feel free to agree or disagree. And by "on TV", I meant on "crime-based" TV shows like CSI, The Mentalist, etc etc.
"I'm the dude playin' the dude, disguised as another dude!"

does Brenda irritate me sometimes? Yes she does. Is she the "most" annoying character on TV? Hardly. I've watched countless TV shows in many different genres growing up and I have seen many characters that are much worse and much more annoying than Brenda is. And I personally find Rusty a lot more annoying, and even he isn't the most annoying character I've seen.
shareI enjoy the Closer and The Brenda character, but she really is extremely self centered - it is all about her and her case and everyone else is of little importance to her- She even threw Fritz under the bus to get her case closed .
She is a force to be reckoned with , but uses the little ole me card when she wants to get something .
although I do like Brenda overall, but I agree that she is very self-centered and self-absorbed, that's precisely why I find her character annoying sometimes. But still she is hardly the "most" annoying character I've seen on TV, as I mentioned before, I've seen much worse and much more annoying characters.

Brenda was nowhere near as annoying as Abby from NCIS or Garcia from Criminal Minds.I have to fast forward every scene they are in.
so bollocks is bad, but dogs bollocks is good?
I actually really like Abby on NCIS and Garcia on CM, I like them more than Brenda actually, mainly because they're such good people, sure they are quirky but for me I think that's what makes their characters interesting, but I understand that they are not everyone's cup of tea.
Whereas the problem I have with Brenda is that her character was just so self-centered and so self-absorbed, it was all about HER and HER cases and most of the time she did not care about anyone else or their interests, she mainly just cared about her own needs and closing her own cases, she was always taking favors from Fritz but rarely giving, and I feel she usually took Fritz and his helpfulness & love for granted. I never really understood why such a giving and patient man like Fritz would fall in love with such a selfish & self-absorbed woman like Brenda...but you know what they say, love is blind. Brenda was such a flawed character that her selfishness really irritated me sometimes.
Both Abby and Garcia may be quirky, but they are not self-centered or self-absorbed like Brenda was...so for me personally, I find Brenda much more annoying and less likable compared to these 2 characters, but to each their own. Although I still do not think Brenda is the "most" annoying character I've seen.
Being good doesn't excuse them from being annoying The "I'm so super sensitive and the world is such a yucky, dreadful place" act, got boring after the first 3 episodes. Would people with such a low tolerance for the nasty things in life, really choose to work in the careers these 2 are supposed to have chosen ? I really want to reach through the screen and slap them both silly.
As for Brenda's selfishness, you are totally right, but she was dedicated to the point of obsession and while I do believe she used to take shameful advantage of poor Fritz, he knew what she was like and married her anyway.

as I said, to each their own, everyone has different reasons for disliking or liking a character. Some people dislike a character simply because they just find the character annoying for whatever random reason, while others just dislike the character's personality. For me personally, Brenda's blatant selfishness and disregard for other people's needs & interests makes her very annoying to me, to the point that she sometimes frustrates me so much that I just feel like strangling her. I find her much more annoying and unbearable compared to Abby and Garcia, who are both good people with much less flaws.
But you are entitled to your own opinions too.
No, she is fantastic! Funny, smart, a bit quirky at times, insightful, for starters. I just started watching the series and I love it!
shareAfter about the twentieth "Thy-ank yee-ew!" I turned it off and never went back.
shareYes, she is the most annoying character on TV.
I just discovered the show last month. My God, she is a deeply, deeply flawed individual. She lies constantly, to everyone, about everything. She's one of those people who lies automatically, by default, without pausing or weighing it. Any slight discomfort or potential awkwardness, and boom, she lies. I despise people like that.
She lies to her boss, constantly. She lies to her boyfriend. She lies to her parents. She lies to every random person she interacts with.
The accent is insulting to Southerners, just way overdone like Sofia Vergara's extremely exaggerated South American accent on "Modern Family", which most Americans will probably assume is Mexican. I don't think I can listen to her say lew-TENNENT one more time. You probably have to hear it to understand...
Her facial expressions are painful to watch. They're so extreme, so exaggerated, that it seems like it has to hurt to make all those amplified expressions all day, every day. I feel like her facial muscles must have been so sore in the first few weeks of production.
She's extremely unprofessional. She lacks the basic ability to handle the various requirements and responsibilities of a high level management position in the modern world, certainly not a high level police leadership position. For example, she dismisses and neglects the federal WMD anti-terrorism training that her team is required to complete, risking the loss of federal funding, which would cost her one member of her team. She says the training is not important. This is in a post-9-11 world, just four or so years after the attacks. Not important? She also says that it's unrealistic for her team to ever need to deal with WMD. Problem: The last episode before this one she and her team helped the CIA bust open an Islamist terror plot in Los Angeles, where the terrorists had procured weapons-grade plutonium... I mean, really? Are the writers on drugs?
