"Comics present a character that kills villains without regret."
i havent seen the first punisher film, but last i checked the 04 punisher also killed without regret.
"Punisher kills villains and villains don't have a second chance for criminal attitudes: superhero don't kills villains and they can destroy other innocent lives."
this also happened in the 04 punisher. you they were misinterpretations but keep in mind
A) everything you stated also applied to the 04 film
B) I dont think anyone views the punisher as a superhero nor, as far as i know, has he ever been interpreted that way on the movie screen and
C) the are dozens of interpretations of the punisher in the comics, in some he cares about his family and in others he just used their death as excuse to be who he wanted to be.
Out of the 3 movie version of The Punisher, this has been my hands down favorite (just finished watching it the first time today). The violence was over the top and downright GORY at times...bordered on horror! Good stuff! Yes, it was borderline brainless at times and just an excuse for shoot 'em ups, but its still leagues better then the '04 & the lame 80s version (sorry Dolph).

Google "Dirty Laundry", there is a 10 minute clip that Tom Jane does of the Punisher he wished he could have been on big screen. Jane nails the roll over Stevenson IMO
I was extremely disappointed in "Dirty Laundry". If anything, it demonstrated beyond any shadow of doubt that Ray Stevenson is the best Punisher to date bar none, and that Marvel must continue their policy of not returning Jane's calls.
I was always under the impression that Thomas Jane was a real fan with his heart in the right place; he just had the rotten luck of being stuck in a so called "Punisher" movie written and directed by Jonathan Hensleigh, a professional lawyer and wannabe filmmaker who couldn't write halfway decent character development if his life depended on it, and who had ZERO understanding of the Punisher character. End result: decent tribute to the cinema of the seventies, disasterous Punisher movie.
"Dirty Laundry" demonstrated that Jane also don't really get the Punisher character or what makes him tick. To the extent of which Jane is a fan at all, he is so not of any incarnation of the character from the comics, but a Travis Bickle-esque parody that never existed anywhere outside the confines of his own imagination.
Hey Norse Sage, glad to see you still here. I just watched PWZ last night, first time in a couple of years. There is so much to recommend the film, it's a shame those pluses came with so many minuses.
Ray Stevenson, first and foremost, was sublime. He really took a Frank Castle to heart. And the film was just gorgeous. Each shot was a work of art. It was worth enduring the disappointments in the film just for those two things.
Some day, maybe, we'll get another Punisher, but without Ray Stevenson, which is a shame.
You caught me at a good time, as my Punisher interest has recently been rekindled after laying dormant for same time!
Ray Stevenson was indeed excellent, and the only actor that has gotten and thus actually pulled of Frank Castle to date. Just too bad there are elements of the surrounding movie that prevent PWZ from reaching its full potential.
I do hope another Punisher movie will be made someday, and when that day comes, I hope they will take a cue from Ray and PWZ's take of Frank Castle - and not the other past Punisher actor who missed the mark.
Honestly the 1989 film is my favorite of the three movies. Its villain Lady Tanaka is also my favorite of the Punisher villains because she's just pure evil. She's the kind of villain you hate and want to see punished.
I don't believe anyone who says they liked this movie. They liked the fact that the Punisher killed a lot of people. That's it. Period. They liked the fact that Punisher mowed people down like he does in the comics. But admit it - this movie was awful. Punisher 2004 didn't mow people down, but it was a great movie and would have been a good start for a series.
As far as I'm concerned all three of The Punisher movies were horrible and Jane's Punisher is possibly one of the many most overrated comic films to date. I don't get why it is so liked by people when it was a mediocre Punisher adaptation at best and a boring wanna be 70's revenge film with western cowboy stuff thrown in it. It was lame comic book movie that was a missed opportunity to make something great, and Jane's performance isn't all that great like people make it out to be.
Both the 2004 and 2008 Punisher movies were valid. There's more than one kind of Punisher comic, and there was room for more than one kind of Punisher movie.
It tried to follow The Punisher Max comic books and it failed miserly at even doing that. This movie feels like it was being based off Batman and Robin 1997 with all silly neon lights thrown into along with having AVP:R style action with The Punisher thrown it. At least I can take The Punisher Max comic books seriously but this movie I cannot along with the other two Punisher movies. At least Punisher Max comic books had some dark serious storylines with brutal realistic action that was awesome. This movie looked like a total joke and just had cartoonish style action you would see on the syfy channel. I don't even know how or why this movie was released the way it was.
