This movie sucks so bad - Punisher: War Zone (2008) Discussion

Obviously people who think that the 2004 punisher is the best dont know the character of the punisher. It isnt a cry baby, its lean mean killing machine, and thats exactly what you get in warzone. You watch or read punisher to see bad guys get slaughtered in bushes, and warzone provides.
This movie doesnt suck at all, hell i think its the best marvel movie so far, it was like reading a comic book, FINALLY, they got it how it should be done. Im hoping for more marvels to come out like this one.

I absolutely agree with you Thamauturge, the one with Thomas Jane was the best so far. The Punisher Warzone sucked ass, it was a horrible pease of crapp. Please, bring back Thomas Jane!

The 04 looked too much a mellow drama than an action movie. Choosing the Welcome Back Frank story as a starting point was a mistake. They need to go deep into his history which NONE of the Punisher movies done. When he was a teenager, he studied to be a priest, but changed his mind when he sees a lot of crime and decided to join the marines. Show him in action (Born),with all the rewards he had, How he met Maria, Why The Costa Family execute Forest Hunt and show Franks familly get murdered by them (I know that will be a disturbing scene). Have the drama of the 04 mix with the hardcore violence of War Zone (Except have the drama better than the 04 and more of a deeper story what War Zone lacked). That will make a good Punisher movie in my eyes. Let the audience really know who Frank is and where he's coming from.

I hope they do make a sequel w/Stevenson; he has my pick as the best Frank Castle. Lots of explosions, lots of bullets & lots of action.

War Zone is better after seeing it a 3rd or 4th time. But the one reviewer was right, Jigsaw did feel like a Dick Tracy character. I've been reading the comics since I was 12(saw the Lundgren flick first), and I prefer the 04' better. Don't listen to these other posters saying "if you don't like War Zone, then you're not a true fan". They just like to bust-a-n*t over all that ultra-violence.

Punisher War Zone did LITTLE more name-dropping based on the comics, but they still butchered the characters, the villains mostly.

That's not my worst problem with Punisher War Zone. Making Punisher a cop-killer...That was unforgivable.

Yeah The Punisher don't kill cops, unless they act curuped. In fact in the comics, he would even turn himself in if he would kill a cop.

The sad thing is that with all the 3 punisher movies, not one is showing who Frank Castle REALLY is, how he was raised, his histoy with the marines, how he became and act the way he is. He made up the skull while he was on a mission in the marines. He captured and tied him to a tree. he painted a skull on the guys chest and another on himself, meaning death, then killed the guy. His hunger for killing bad guys was taking over Frank's humanity at that point. He knew things won't ever be the same when he comes home with his family, thinking there going to be in danger soon (of course it turned out to be true). His childhood is interesting too, as he grew up in front a lot of crime, when he was like 10, he saw a guy murdered named Vincent Rosa, who like to rape girls, and Frank would never forget those shocking events. Its a long history of Frank that I can't tell the whole story. I just hope they would put that in the next Punisher movie, so they will know his REAL story.

Punisher War Zone is possibly the worst movie I've ever seen, while I love the 2004 version.

This movie is godawful...it's just as bad as Batman and Robin 1997...if you ask me.The only thing I will give this movie credit for is that it actually tried to get The Punisher origins and character down right and the setting right as well...and had brutal violence...
Something the first two punisher movie should have gotten down right the first time...Other then that this movie still sucks..Crappy special fx,bad acting, bad direction and writing I could go on....For a successful Punisher film...Marvel Studios is going to have to do more then just make a Punisher movie that is faithful to the Punisher comic books and storylines but also add in elements that will make mainstream audiences and critics alike come out and pay to see the movie and also like it...that means Marvel Studios is going to have do what other studios with the Punisher film rights failed to do...and that means actually trying to make a damn good stand alone action/crime thriller film with The Punisher in it...At this point I have more faith in Marvel Studios pulling it off better then Liongate did since they screw The Punisher movies twice and cause Jane to walk off from Punisher 2...which sucks because I throught Jane was cool as The Punisher despite the flaws that the Punisher 2004 film had..and instead Liongate gave us this crappy movie as a sequel which was a mega flop and rightfully so...

For a Punisher movie to be good, it needs to go deep. It needs to be more of a Frank Castle movie rather than a Punisher movie. From childhood, to joining the marines (him being in the marines should be the most important part of the movie, because thats how he became who he is. A lot of important stuff going on there.),show the situation of The Costa Family, why there killing Forest Hunt? Billy Russo (Jigsaw) didn't kill Frank's family, but he was hired by Frank Costa (Leader of the Costa Family) to kill Frank when he found out he was alive. I think you need to go deep into his story (and not made up stuff) for a Punisher movie to be good.

The movie was terrible, barely better than Ghost Rider 2. I'd take Batman & Robin over this as you could at least laugh. Marvel Knights to stop making its DTV looking movies.

I wasn't a fan of Punisher 04 but it sh!ts all over this film.

Nah. This movie has faults but IMHO it is far better than the pathetic attempt we got in 2004. I wouldn't mind seeing Thomas Jane return if it's more in line with the short film Dirty Laundry, but we don't need more of that mess.

Personally, I thought the Dolph Lundgren one was best. I know it wasn't faithful to the comics, but it was the most cinematically well made. The 2004 version just felt soulless, and War Zone had such choppy editing that I couldn't see what the hell was going on.
