The end of japanese chick's story was so . . . incestous !!!
She, high on ecstacy, standing naked infront of her father !
Gosh, what have filmmakers come to there days !
"With great Power. . comes . . . great Responsibility".

Ending, not incenstous, but weird. Weird that is was odd to show her nude and have her father walk in and not say, "put on some clothes, child."
As far as Japanese society goes, families do bathe together when kids are young, but not as teens. Public bathes, aka "onsens", may be nude, but they are separated by gender, aside from ones where you pay extra for private rooms. I know such things cause I live in Japan.
Japan is a really closeted society in that people don't get to express their emotions properly like in the US and is a big reason why kids kill themselves often here. "The nail that sticks out gets hammered" (JP proverb) I think to most Japanese, the portrayal of JP people in the movie would come off as very sexual and open, which is not really the case in general here.
From an American perspective (and as a father), I wouldn't want to see my kid nude at that age. If I thought my kid was suicidal or in danger (clothing or not), I would do whatever to save her. As a parent, once you see someone defecate on a regular basis, you really don't have sexual feelings and shouldn't in general. The love for a child is not the same as the love for a partner/gf/bf/, whatever.
As for the brother/"not sister" thing, even if she wasn't technically his "sister", they lived together and acted like a family. That masturbation scene was not something I needed to see and was unnecessary. Really created a sour taste in my mouth. I don't wanna see little kids doing stuff like that on film.
me.

I'll start by one thing that has gone unobserved...In Japan there are public bathhouses where entire families go together.....grandparents through teenagers and small children. I have had a friend visit one and he was embarrassed when the teenage girls walked around. There is a cultural difference, for sure.
I am commenting about the end of that movie. The girl was naked....inside and out. She had not taken her clothes of for her father, but someone else, because that was the only way she knew to get attention. I see this scene very different. I found it beautiful....he maybe saw her....as I said inside- her being was naked, everything about her was. At that moment she was desperate to be held by her father, and to run to a room and put on a dress was beyond her desperate state. I'm not sure why there has to be any idea of incest because her absence of clothes at that time was anything but erotic. In a way, I think the movie director was going just for that...her ability to have her father finally see her bare and breaking soul, in her bare and suffering existence. I have been very sick as an adult woman, who still has an excellent figure (if that matters to anyone, I only add that simply because it might), but at times am completely bed bound with a spinal disease. My father has seen me naked and there is no shame. The shame would exist if either of us acted in an erotic way. As someone said....naked is simply unclothed. Erotic can be in clothes or out. I wonder what is in the life experiences of those who feel shame in that action.
