I've had cats all my life so you could say that I have affection for cats, and that part on Jenifer really bothered me. Why couldn't she just mutilate a dog?

Try watching the Masters of Horror episode, The Black Cat. A man cuts the cat's eye out, hangs it by a noose, and then burns it.
shareWay to make your point, by suggesting she should've harmed another defenseless creature. It's a common trope that cats get harmed in horror films. So either, you research the films before watching them, grow thicker skin, or don't watch horror films.
My response to this would be why didn't Jenifer harm a baby? Since most humans think their own children are superior to those of other species, perhaps a reality check as to the true nature of harming a defenseless animal is in order. Everyone would be up in arms if she tortured a baby.

On topic, that was easily the worst thing about Jenifer. I really liked the episode, but the cat scene did not have my approval. I guess it was necessary to show Jenifer's killing istincts, though. She started with the cat, then ate the girl, the man, the boy. This was to show her monster side to both the protagonist and the viewers.
Boycott movies that involve real animal violence! (and their directors too)
Isn't that the point of a horror movie? To disturb you?
