Jesse James/No Country/There Will Be Blood?

Which of these three 2007 released movies did you like the best? All three were phenomenal for me, watched The Assassination of Jesse James for the 3rd time in the summer, first time in a few years, and it was the first time I fully appreciated the film. I now rate it as my favourite movie of all time. (The first two viewings were when I was about 15/16). I also watched There Will Be Blood in the summer, the 2nd time I have seen it, and was blown away.

The Assassination of Jesse James
There Will Be Blood
No Country For Old Men

2007 was just an Epic year for film. The three you mentioned are all amazing films,...and are all equals in my opinion. There was also Zodiac, Eastern Promises and into the wild,...I know the last one isn't even in the same class but it's still a great film in my opinion. My point is that film needs another 2007. I definitely agree, Into The Wild was fantastic and inspiring.

All 3 of them are some of the greatest movies of all time, however No Country For Old Men is the best out of the three.

So this is the order from best to worst:

NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN.
THERE WILL BE BLOOD.
THE ASSASSINATION OF JESSE JAMES BY THE COWARD ROBERT FORD.

reply

Including someone else's suggestion of Zodiac I would say:
There Will Be Blood
Zodiac
No Country For Old Men
Jesse James

I like this movie, but the others blew me away. It was my first time watching it, maybe after a couple more viewings it will grow on me. At this point I would say I agree with where it is at on the IMDb point scale

"ITS JUST A COUCH!"

For me:

1. The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford
2. There Will Be Blood
3. No Country for Old Men

IMO Jesse James is easily the best of these three. TWBB just tells of one ugly, disgusting man and whenever I see Daniel Day-Lewis it seems he's so heavily overacting, like Al Pacino. I really like the Coen Brothers but I don't think NCFOM is one of their best, it's good but they've done much better films. Jesse James on the other hand is a beautifully shot, melancholy, moving film and it has only 7.6 rating on IMDb? Should be much higher!

reply

There Will Be Blood is definitely the best out of those three, but Zodiac is far and away the best film of 2007. I loved No Country until the last twenty minutes and was bored to tears by Jesse James (and I'm the biggest Terrence Malick fan you'll meet).

No Country for Old Men isn't overrated just because a stupid internet a*hole says so. It deserves all the praise it gets.

reply

By far my favorite year for movies. I'd probably rank them:
1. Jesse James
2. No Country
3. There Will Be Blood
4. Into the Wild
5. Gone Baby Gone

reply

1. No Country
2. TWBB
3. Jesse James

All three are extraordinary epics but I find No Country to be the most fascinating as it is so metaphorical, while the other two are just tales without any message. Don't get me wrong, I adore Jesse and TWBB, but I feel like No Country is a bit better, for me.

It's weird how you find a message in No Country but struggle to find meaning in TWBB and Jesse James...
