Are all video store clerks morons?

Or is it just the ones that work at Family Video? Before anyone gets angry with my statements realize that they were a joke. However, the clerks at my local Family Video are most assuredly morons and do not deserve to work in a store where they are required to recommend films to customers. The manager of the store noticed I was renting this movie and proceeded to laugh at me and then told me she felt sorry for me because I was renting this atrocious film (she didn't use that particular word, I believe it may have been outside of her vocabulary). This seemed rather absurd since every review I have read said Behind the Mask is the breath of fresh air American horror needs and after viewing I have to agree.

This was by far the most creative horror film I have seen coming out of the United States in a long time. It's just sad that when people go to that particular store and ask for advice on movies they have to deal with individuals who cannot appreciate original and imaginative films.

I guess you really have to take the attitude that "Opinions are like a**holes" when you ask that question of anyone (or when someone gives their unsolicited opinion). Then, next time that person gives their opinion, you know that it is one that you can safely ignore.

In the city I grew up in, there was one video store clerk I was always hoping was working when I went to rent. The guy is an encyclopedia of movies. He always made sure you understood he was just giving his opinion, but he could tell you what he liked or disliked about pretty any movie they had in stock. A friend of mine and I tested him one night, throwing out really obscure movie titles, and he never once said, "I've never seen that one."

I learned pretty fast that his taste in movies was almost exactly the same as mine, so his opinion on a flick carried a lot of weight with me. I would say he probably enjoyed this show quite a bit (just a guess, don't quote me on that).

Opinions are like issues X] as in everyone has them.

The opinion of a total stranger doesn't really mean much to me when it comes to things of that nature.

Though I must say it's a bit harsh to call someone "idiot" for liking(or disliking) something you do not.

I work at Blockbuster and generally gear more toward indies or b horror. I loved his movie, someone ask me what's a good horor film, this title comes up. Frankly, when working with the public, you kinda have to dumb it down. But, you tend to get to know your customers taste after awhile. But, some of my co-workers are more movie savvy than others. I'm the horror indie guy...so, the answer to the question is no, no they are not, in general. Fair enough?

I don't expect everyone at a Video Store to know all movies inside out, but it's nice that they have basic knowledge of at least classic films. One time my daughter wanted to rent The Blue Lagoon and we asked for help finding it. The girl working found it and looked at the cover and said out loud 'how come she's not wearing a shirt??!'. Ugh, just give me that dam thing so I can pay for it and get out of here. Not the same exactly as your issue, but sort of. Just dealing with morons at video stores is just painful.

She knew her stuff, you should have listened.
The movie is a stinker, there is no point justifying it's existence.
