Blackwhite and color, other movies?

What other movies are there that use constrast between blackwhite and color to drive the story? The Giver is one. Pleasantville another. Both are excellent movies.

Yeah, I was waiting to see if anyone mentioned 1983's "Rumblefish." As I recall, the ONLY color in that entire movie was the one scene in which we see the fish, which is in color. Everything (and every other living creature) in the entire movie was in black and white. REALLY made it stand out!

That was one of the most interesting, quirkiest movies I think I've ever seen the great director, Francis Ford Coppola make. It also starred a great cast, including Matt Dillon, Mickey Rourke and the gorgeous (especially way back then!) Diane Lane, among many others (like Dennis Hopper). It's been SOOOOO long since I saw the movie I remember very little about it other than the fish and the fact that it was a sort of "mean streets" type of movie. Think I'll see if I can put it on my Netflix list.

"If..." starring Malcolm McDowell. It is a British film made in the 60s, and the first time I saw It, I thought I had a handle on the logic of the changes from monochrome to colour and back again for the first few scenes.

However, I later found out that they ran out of money halfway through making the film and couldn't afford to buy more film, and all they had was a shed-load of B&W.

So much for the intellectual aspects. It's a great film, though, about an armed rebellion in a private boys' school, a decade before the an early movie with Tom Cruise, "Taps".

The Tingler with Vincent Price used it quite effectively. I think it's one of William Castle's scariest.
