For you, maybe. There's many people who think that, regardless of his artistic career, he should have paid his dues to justice. So it's embarrassing for you. For those who were watching the film, it was a way to portray two things: a) the powerful can get away with heinous acts, b) Hailey is extremely pissed off because of that.

Making fun of a superior director won't make "Hard Candy" a decent film.
Him being a superior director won't stop people criticising his *beep* morals. And I don't give a *beep* how good a director he is, he still should have faced justice and if he chose not to, he deserves to be reminded what a disgusting coward he was.

You liking Polanski too much will never justify his brutal personal failings, and the comment was SPOT ON on this movie: it both makes the viewer think about how screwed society is, and describes Hailey's personality. She is enraged and thirsty for justice, and she has the logical impression that justice is rarely served.

It's embarrassing how the only thing that you got out of Hard Candy is a "boo-hoo, I like this director and they're reminding the world how he escaped a trial for drugging and raping a 13-year old".

Well, your attitude is not embarrassing, but it's certainly shameful. If you don't like the truth, all the worse for you, it's still there.

Even though he unjustly escaped the consequences of his actions, someone who drugs and rapes a 12 year old child deserves whatever form of reproach they get.
